Hi Andrew,

Jeff, yes, he remembers that well! That was in this Bronco I believe.
We just talked about it a few weeks ago. He called and had talked to another friend and they had asked him how his finger was and if he still had it! Duct tape saved it. Hahaha. I think it was 72 and a stateside race.....

was

Very, very cool!

I'm certain that was the Parker race... and '72 sounds right.

Hope things are going well for you guys.

Take Care,

Jeff

Time for an update on this guy. Since the quarentine I've actually had a ton of work - and a family trim in there too - plus my folks are moving to my property right next to Baja Broncos Unlimited...their house will be 10 feet away! Hahha. So not much time for Colt other than to drive around block and sit in and research.

Anyway, I found the correct taillights - which was no easy task. Got lucky. So I knew the plastic lights on Colt were mid to late 70s and cheap plastic. But early photos of it showed a cool looking metal chrome base light. I was looking at early Porsche, datsun, british car whatever...nothing matched. I met a friend at a swap meet shortly after and while trying to find him, wandered into a spot. A guy had a ton of random stuff on tables...you know that guy at the swap I'm sure.... anyway, i see the light, pick it up and ask how much. 5 bucks. Perfect. Now I had a part number, etc, and turns out it's a trailer light from the 50s and 60s. 6V and single element. But it's a match. Found some NOS and some spares and the NOS are on Colt now. The worst spares, I cut up and welded some 1157 sockets in so I can swap those in and have brakelights and turn signals. Here are some pics of the light swap. Not much else other than more research and chatting with folks. Will try to post more fun pictures of interior and underside too. Still my favorite Bronco.

Here's a cool photo of Kurt Strecker of Viva Broncos. He posted this to facebook and it's also in the latest issue of Bronco driver. If you haven't checked that issue out it's great - Go get it. I believe this is 1971 Baja 1000 with Bill Rush and Steve Krieger. Note how big Rush is and how he's crammed in there.

Pit Pants. That or a loaner from the nearby prison system!
Does he have one red shoe and one blue?

Was just being patriotic, without actually stepping over the bounds and wearing an image of the flag.

Haven't had a ton of time to get Colt out, but Thursday I finished the taillight and headlight wiring, finished the front bumper install, and fixed the Holley Double Pumper and reinstalled. She fired right up. A quick bath and she's now loaded on the trailer, ready for Wild Horses show tomorrow.

Okay bajabrewer. How do you fix those pics? I gotta learn.

Well, I download them to my computer, open each one in a photo editing program, rotate and "Save as" with an x on the end of the file name so it's a new file & then upload that one. I'm not sure why some have a problem with the sideways pics? I noticed the tail light pics you posted didn't have an issue. What are you using to take the pics? When looking through your pics & deciding which ones to upload you could try opening it in a photo program(sometimes just double clicking will do this or right click and "open with") & saving it to a new folder with a new name before uploading them. I have a folder on my desktop called flip fix that I use when I help someone out. I know this is an extra step but it's pretty quick once you do it a few times.

Good Luck & POST MORE PICS!(I really don't mind fixing them if needed)

Been a while since I've posted much on the Colt bronco but I've been busy! After hearing that Big Oly would be going to NORRA this year, I pushed fast forward on my plans to take Colt to NORRA. I figured since doing the Safari class would be more chill, it might be perfect to see how Colt is in the dirt. I signed up for NORRA and tore into colt in February. Motor/trans/tcase/radiator/gauges/brakes/axles/bearings and tires. Thats all I did. Checked out the wiring and added a new starter solenoid and voltage regulators. Here's some pics of the work!
