I specifically came to this site because I know I could spend a month solid studying early Broncos and would still not have the combined knowledge base of this forum. I know bronco prices have skyrocketed recently, and want to make sure I’m not out of touch. Five years ago when he inherited it, i had figured it figured at 30k or so high retail and as it sits wholesale around 20kish. I do not plan on flipping this bronco or ever selling it. I have wanted this thing for the better part of 25 years. I will get some more pictures and get them posted. Odometer is 66k miles.

Good to hear!
Completely my opinion, but....5 years ago was a completely different era in the Bronco world. I purchased a beautiful ‘77 4 years ago for $10k (probably worth $30k+ today) 2015 was the turning point but still a few good deals in ‘16. There is no such thing as “retail/“wholesale” in todays crazy market. Who ever wants it more with the most money wins. At some point, the economy is going to tank and the first thing people do is sell their “toys”. It will be interesting to see how many Broncos show up on the market and how their values are affected. I think you will see a lot of “polished turds” that people payed way too much for to be “the cool guy” at heavily discounted prices. They will start deteriorating form shotty restorations while they economy is rebounding and the few original survivors will then become even more desirable. Who knows. I just love working on and driving them, though I’m a little more conservative with the sawsall :)
Send us more pics to verify it’s a ‘73 Ranger. We would love to hear what you paid but obviously that’s up to you. Congrats on your inevitable purchase!!

Could still be a 74. I have owned ‘74 and ‘77 Rangers without belt-line trim.

Looks like a nice survivor. If you are planning to keep it forever, ask you buddy what he would take for it and start from there. Finding a price you both think is fair and can agree on is more important than trying to determine what other people might pay.... Good luck. It’s rare to find one that is unmolested....

Looks like an especially nice survivor from every picture so far. From those pictures and your description I’d say don’t think about it to long or it will get away. Would look closely at rust prone areas like toe boards ( floor pans ) and cowl (under dash ) to determine your offer , $40,000 to $45,000 would be a great deal. If no signs of rust or previous repairs to body actual value IMO $50,000 to $60,000 . Lots of people have paid more for much less .

Thanks 77 Silver. There is zero rust, the truck has spent its entire life garaged. No body or paint work ever. Has the original carpet in it still. The top has never been off it before. I know it’s hard to imagine, but it’s an entirely rust free central Texas garaged bronco.

We really need some good interior pictures, seats, carpet, headliner, dash etc... and some more body shots. In one picture the wheels appear to have been swapped. I can see that it has dealer added air. With original paint, good original interior, no rust, in well maintained condition, I agree it is 40k+ in the current market.

What is the plate mechanism thing on the front bumper? The bumperettes have been relocated to mount whatever it is. Is it related to the box mounted on the driver's side inner fender? Obviously not stock and could be removed. Removing will leave 2 holes in the bumper where the bumperettes were relocated.

Some sort of winch pushbar set up? Looks like a cable and hook but I can't quite make it out.

That is an aftermarket winch. Going to try and get some good pictures of it sent to me today. It’s missing the factory carb and air cleaner, what’s on it now is aftermarket. Looks like it is going to take 35k to buy it.

That is a Hickey Sidewinder Winch. One of your pictures shows the winch control
box mounted on the driver side inner fender by the jack mount.

I know it’s been on there as far back as I can remember. Would that hurt it’s value?

I’d say, not going to hurt the value. I didn’t see the pic but if it’s just a matter of pulling it off and putting the bumperetts back on, you would be amazed how well the original chrome bumpers buff out. Otherwise, not a big deal to find a oem replacement bumper.
If he turned down $35k, it sounds like he is wanting more knowing it’s worth more. What ever you do, don’t let it slip away. IMO, unless you are The Godfather I’d his children or he owes you his left n¥++, I’d offer $40k or what ever it takes to put a genuine smile on his face. I’ve bought and sold several EBs to and from friends who are still friends to this day. Though in this market, it’s tough to give the good buddy deal when there’s the potential to make an additional $25k. The pics I’ve seen, are some of the nicest unrestored examples I’ve ever seen. The fact that it is 1 of 400 doesn’t add much value. My ‘77 is 1 of 190, but isn’t nearly as special as that Ranger. Not knowing either of your financial situations....if your buddy could use the cash, let him list it at $65k. Don’t let your wants shadow his needs. Or, if it’s the other way around and he’s loaded, $35k would be very generous on his part. Also, don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. The Bronco market is HOT right now but could change overnight (doubtful) and your once $35k bronco is now worth $25k. So make sure you can live with that!
I think we are all saying the same thing and is time for you to close the deal before the word travels any further.
FYI. I’ll give $45k right now and I’m sure there are several members who would out bid me. Good Luck!

Matter of opinion. For me, yes, for others, no. I would pull it off and sell it to someone who is familiar with them and likes them. I've heard of them but not sure I've ever seen one mounted before. I would keep it as original and "unmolested" as you can. Some will say the Hickey winch is period correct and OK, which is true. To me it detracts from the pure survivor and originality aspect of this Bronco. Flame suit on!!

Now a nice and working 8274 would add value!! ;D

He didn’t turn down 35k, he’s more or less giving me first right of refusal on it. 35k is what it’s going to take for me to buy it. It’s not listed on the market and will not be. The 35k offer is from one of his family’s friends that also owns some dealerships. He wants to sell it to me because he knows he can still see and drive it down the road anytime he wants.

Buy it if you can, probably once in a lifetime chance . 1974 is most desirable year in states like Calif no cat conv required . If it falls short of your expectation you can sell to his family friend to recoup and your friend would understand . Sounds like he thinks highly of you .
