It was raining and cold today so I started the day looking at craigslist. There was an add for a 2 1/2 ton military truck winch. I took a look knowing it was too big but in the wording of the add he says he has another one. I give him a call and he tells me the other one is much smaller and still in it's original box never used. He says the box has desert dynamics on it and he thinks its a hydraulic winch. Turns out he is local and I go take a look. sure enough it a desert dynamics hyd winch 9000 lb bought in 1985 still in the box. Well what was left of the box after the rats had eating it some. Still had the plugs in the hyd ports, it's never had wire on it and had all the paperwork with it. Well I have been looking for a hyd winch for dads bronco. I already have the pto on the 435 so the plan is to mount a pump and tank an a few quick disconnect lines in the front and back of the truck. Put the winch on a receiver mount and use it when you need to. Well this one looked great for the job so I offered him 2 hundred for it. He was asking $250.00 he turned it down and said he needed the $250.00 So I gave him what he needed. We talked for a while and as i was leaving he said he had a spool of stainless cable and some kind of hydraulic valving with a remote control. We looked around and found the valves but did not find the cable. He promised me If he found the cable I could have it. Check back in a week " I will dig for it" is what he told me. So I get it home and I am very happy with my brand new 1985 winch. Anyone know anything about "Desert dynamics" This thing is built pretty good.

It's a worm gear winch. It may be slow but I bet it will pull all day long. power in or out plus free spool. Old school is good for me. They know me at that school.

Old school winches are cool. They're even cooler when they're welded on to your frame.%)

Yea, you got to weld it tight to the frame with nasty booger welds. Dont forget to rattle can it when done for rust proofin. Nice score. Scott

Hey bax it looks exactly like a Ramsey PTO winch I have. In fact in the book I have for it the Hydraulic setup is an option. Looks like you could take off the Hydraulic motor and use it as a PTO if you wanted. Let me know if you want a copy of the book.
