Well, I took the halfcab out today for pictures with my lady and on the way to and from our destination I noticed my Bronco was making a strange chattering jingling noise it has always made the noise but for some reason it bothered me today. I never owned a 170 prior to this Bronco so I'm unfamiliar if this is a common noise for these little motors. Any help would be great.

I've heard that before on a 302 when the rubber on the harmonic balancer lets go. The outer timing ring on the harmonic balancer that is held to the inner part makes quite a racket when the rubber fails! Would assume the same is true for a 6 cylinder.

Just something to check.

I had a pilot bearing that was not put in when the clutch was replaced. That made a chattering noise. Possibility?

sounds clutch area related, when you push the clutch in does the noise go away or change?

Had a 351 that had a wierd jingling noise.
The piston had exploded. The face and ring pack were still intact and plugging the bore at the top. The wristpin was bouncing off the cylinder wall in a random manor. Wierd noise and a miss, but ran good. At least until the pin ate through the wall and dumped the cooling system into the oil pan.
