Crazy toque converter/flexplate issue?

Well, now that my tranny has been pulled from the motor the shop thought they had figured out the problem....apparently someone put the 50oz flywheel on instead of the 28oz. Problem solved??....nope. I just got a call and apparently they cannot find a flywheel/flexplate to fit the torque converter? So, is it possible that my C4 has a 5.0 torque converter on it because maybe the previous tranny shop had the same problem finding a matching pair, or is the parts place unable to find a correct 28oz plate? I hope this makes sense to someone, because it doesn't make sense to me. It seems like, both the converter and the flexplate are wrong?? Help

There are alot of old posts on this subject search for them but the gist is you have to change the converter and flywheel to units compatable to each other with the 28 oz balence weight. Ford did a bastard thing and parts are no longer made to support keeping the old converter. Bronco howie has really spelled it out in the past.

what does not match up? Is is that your converter studs are spaced dfferently than the flexplates that they can find?

If so, I might have the right flexplate sitting in my garage....

Need to know how many teeth are on your flex plate. If 157 than yes you have the bastard set up. There are 2 different bolt patterns for the convertors. The 157 used a car pattern. Been awhile but think one is 10.?? across the bolts and the other is 11.??

Or you can have your 50 oz. flywheel machined down to 28 oz... That's what I did to mate my 69 Windsor to a later model flysheel and transmission. Make sure you find somebody who you trust and knows what they're doing...
