anyone have any pictures of a custom rear bumper with two hole cut outs for the exhaust? I have always liked this look and wonder how it would look on an EB

I have a newer Dodge Ram Bumper that I am going to trim in and use as a bumper/roll pan on my Bronco street rod. I don't have it here yet or I would take a pic or two. %)

It would look cool, but unfortunately with the EB, running exhaust pipes straight out the back usually results in fumes being pulled into the passenger compartment.

I've thought of the same thing too. I think it would look great (if done right of course), but agree with the others about the fumes. So I'm going to do the next best thing and try to run them through the body on the passenger side. I'll try to run some sort of body protection plating and then run the tip(s) through it. Perhaps with some type of flange.
In the case of using plate material to protect the body and tip, the flange would be more decorative, but might clean up any hole for just the right look.

Why not run it out the corner of the bumper like a 56 Tbird?

D

Not sure how awkward (or not) it would be, but it would probably depend on the bumper and what you've got there in the corner.
I can't do it on my aftermarket bumper anyway.

Besides, that's still somewhat in the "no fly zone" for fumes getting pulled up into the cab. I wonder though, if it's way out at the corner like that, if the fume issues are still the same? Be interesting to find out.
I think most have tried the areas inboard of the far corner, but don't remember anyone getting the tips way out like that.

Do you think fumes would be bad being ran out the back with the top off? I was considering this, but dont want a lot of fumes.

Yes and no. With the top fully off, it's rarely much of an issue. It's when the top is on and the back gate is open, or even if you just have air leaks in the rear area, that you get the fumes-in-the-face problems.
However, even with the top off, under the right circumstances you can still get some gas. If the air is perfectly still and you're sitting on the trail, or on the street, waiting for traffic to clear up, you can get some whiffs. Not always a great thing, but it's still not as bad as when the top is on to catch and hold the fumes. So you if you think you won't run into those circumstances often enough to be a problem, go for it.

@dirtdonk - I dont own a hard top, so not in immediate plans to ever have one on. I run with a bikini top year round. My current set up exits just in fron of gas tanks and shoots exhaust toward the ground but still more to back than sidfes. Never noticed exhaust smell, but my new system was thinking towards exiting dual exhaust right below bumper mid ship. Now am not sure because I wouldn't want excessive back draft bring exhaust in constantly. Anyone else run rear exit and use bikini??

Well, I would say that if you're not having a problem now, with them pointed down near the rear of the truck, then you're probably not going to have a problem with he new orientation either.
There are no guarantees of course, since most of us have had nothing but trouble with rear exit exhaust. I think the main factor in your good fortune is the no-top-ever scenario. With only a bikini, you have a LOT more leeway than some of us.

I'm guessing that the change you're talking about is not that major in it's location, correct? If that's the case, then even if you do have troubles later, it would be easy enough to modify again, without changing the whole exhaust routing. Also correct?
Sounds like it's worth a shot anyway.

Good luck. And let us know the results if you end up doing it.

I was following a truck like this today. Looks super cool but if there are excessive fumes that would be a no go.

That's the bumper I have. It is a painted bumper off a brand new truck that the buyer wanted a chrome bumper so it was removed. I plan to trim it in so it looks like a roll pan. It is thicker steel so after tying it into the frame it will serve as a roll pan/bumper. :D

Should include a decal stating "Not a Seat" or "Caution: Hot Seat". Or something to that effect.
Pretty good idea though, as far as routing to the sides. Not to mention no light weight tubing to be crushed flat between a rock and a bumper or fender.
Wonder how it worked as far as fumes in the cab were concerned?

I have seen worse. Big block in an FJ40. Exhaust was routed through the nerf bar/side step and out a bowtie cut hole on the back of it. Not a calf burner, but a calf brander would be more properly named.
