D20 input bearing question, input assembly is two sections?

According to this view, the input shaft and bearing reside inside the front housing, like this:

Apparently my D20 is from Mars, and I was able to, while tapping out the input shaft, remove a whole nother assembly not shown which was inside the front housing:

In the pic above the bottom is the drive side which mates to the C4 output, the top is inside the D20 and that is where the bearing labeled 7065 you can't see fits, above the pictured assembly is the snap ring on the truck oriented rear of the bearing also shown above in fist pic labeled snap ring 7070.
The other small snap ring already removed.

First, the master super deluxe WH rebuild kit doesn't have the monster oring noted on the side of this assembly. I guess folks don't get this thing out much.

Second, with the 7070 snap ring removed, the shaft/bearing slides in and out of the assembly about 1/16th of an inch and is stopped by what feels like another snap ring inside the assembly. I looked at the new bearing from WH, and yes, it does have a snap ring:

Since the seal is removed from the bearing side, how do you remove this bearing which appears to have some hidden snap ring?

The adapter and bearing retainer used on C4 D20's are just like your pics. I haven't seen any factory drawings or pics of them.

The 4" o-ring is hard to find but I think JBG carries it. I've re-used them several times without problems. Keep in mind that the gasket on that side of the tcase goes between the bearing retainer and the tcase and that also helps to seal it.

To get the bearing/spud out of the retainer you need to remove the 3 1/2" snap ring just to the rear of the bearing. You won't use the new snap ring that comes with the bearing because it's too big.

viper thanks for being up late.

So, I think I have the big snap ring you mention already off in my pic above.

Your saying the snap ring on the new bearing will not be used, so what do you think is holidng the shaft/bearing from sliding out? Maybe a ridge from the snap ring land? Should I give it a few wacks and see if it moves out?

Yep. It'll pop out.

FYI for those with stock d20 connected to a C4, the adapter uses that large oring shown in the picture above, WH does NOT carry it, BG does.
