Hi- I’m looking at getting a rebuild kit for my D20. I don’t the history, operation (bronco is inop), or condition of the TC other than it leaks… so I figured it’s time to pull and rebuild. I was planning on taking it to a shop since I don’t have a press and was curious if anyone had a thought on how much they should charge. The deluxe rebuild kit is $200, I’m hoping it’s pretty easy job for labor.

Be sure to get the ford repair manual if you D.I.Y. It will save you a lot of time and effort. IIRC I used some bearing pullers instead of a press. I also used the oven and freezer method to reassemble.

I have more questions than answers.
As mentioned you don't need a press. A great diy project. Setting the preload is probably the toughest part, plenty of information on here walking you through it.

You can take the inspection cover off and get a good idea what kind of condition your gears are in. Rotate by hand and see how it feels, maybe shift the ranges while you are at it.

I like the JB fab kit bearing seals and gasket all round just a better quality collection of parts ,,
Appreciate it. D20 is off and on the bench. We’ll see how it goes…

I recently completed the rebuild of my D20. The two videos I linked from Jason & Jonie Builds were very helpful. I sourced my rebuild parts and twin stick kit from JB Fab. Great customer service and quality kits.

Thanks! I had to stop on the Dana 20 rebuild portion of my restoration. I have a couple 1 1/8 sockets and both don’t fit on that yoke nut. So I need to research plan B.

I had to grind down the outside of my socket because it wouldn't seat all the way into the yoke and onto the nut.
