This D44 came with Clifford

BOM : 603218-4 2 8 2C4

My Dana manual says 603218-4 is 71-73 with 3:54 Trac Loc

Anyone have something that will break down the last of the number?
Thanks, Doug.

Your vin tag in the glove compartment will probably be the easiest way to tell what axles, ratio and diffs you have. That said, after soooooo many years, I wouldn't trust that unless you're the original owner. The best thing to do in my opinion is crack open your pumpkin and take a look at what you've got.....
You could also lift the tires off the ground, turn the wheel and count the revolutions of the drive shaft. If when doing that you see that you have 3 and a half turns of the driveshaft with one full turn of the wheel, and if both tires turn the same direction, then you are probably right on with the Trac loc limited diff and 3.54 gears. If they wheels turn in opposite direction, then you have an open diff. Sorry I couldn't answer your question on the axle codes, but hopefully my info helped a bit

The 68 still has the D30 under it, the D44 came with it loose with no factory tag.

Was hoping the last couple of digits might narrow down its build date... When I crack the pumpkin open, I will verify exactly what is in there now.
I don't know how many PO's it has had or what has been done to it. As it is with any Bronco, if you haven't owned it all it's life, then it is an unknown...

Oh I see, no wonder! I did the same to my 68. Good luck with the swap

I can make a guess based on what I know of another D44. This is one I removed from a '77 parts rig, 3 22 7 A5 603780-3. It looks to me like the date here is 3 22 7, or March 22, 1977. I don't know what the A5 means, maybe a shift code or something.

If this is correct then I expect 603218-4 2 8 2C4 to have a date of 2 8 2, or Feb 8, 1972.
