dana 20 adapter clocking ring?

I bought this set up from a member here and I'm not getting how this gets installed. The stud holes don't line up with adapter housing or the transfer case holes. How does it get attached to either end with the studs? I feel like the stud holes should be in the same location but with different spacing as the counter sunk bolt holes. So basically where the pieces of tape are in the picture.

Is it the wrong clocking ring? Or am I not seeing something?

What transmission are you you using?
That looks like a D20 to ZF5 adapter.

4R70W. Yeah after researching that's what I think too. It was sold to me as a 4R70W package so I assumed it would all bolt together. My fault for not doing research before purchasing and being too trusting. I looked on here and saw that some people used this to not have to take the transmission apart but not sure how it would work without the stud holes lining up with the adapter housing holes.

Do they sell a clocking ring that's made for a 4R70W. I was also thinking about getting the one I have machined to have the holes line up. Was also going to have them cut in an O-ring groove in the piece that goes into the adapter housing. Im so far into this one that getting it machined might be my best bet. It seems like it would work really well once the holes line up.

I also could be wrong about this whole thing. If anybody knows how to make this work please let me know.

I am pretty sure I used the same adapter for my ZF and the 4R70W. Are you using the factory 4R70W tail housing ir the adapter housing? I thought the adapter bolted to the trans using the outer bolts after the adapter was bolted to the D20 with the allen bolts. Probably wont work with the 4R70W adapter on the trans

It looks like the adapter housing is on the trans not the stock one. Yeah it looks like you use the Allen bolts to the dana 20 and then the stud/nut to the adapter housing. I don't think my idea of machining the clock ring will work because that will change the clock location of the dana 20. Not sure you can get it in the correct orientation if you don't use the some hole locations.

Now Im thinking about trying to find a bolt that has a collar with an Allen head that can act as both the bolt to the dana 20 and the stud for the housing. Something like this.

With the adapter housing on the back of the trans won't it just bolt directly to the D20 without any adapter ring?

I tired that. The shaft coming out of the transmission is too long and bottoms out. And the splines aren't long enough to just cut out the 1" to make it work. I think that's the piece that you have to replace in the trans to not have to use the clocking ring. I might just start all over and do it right. Just a bummer that it wasn't the correct parts to begin with. Just thought someone on here might of run into this before.

Might be able to drill and tap the adapter to match the trans. Then install on the D20 with the allen bolts and then to the trans with regular bolts. Only issue it does not give any clocking options after you drill and tap.

Im thinking I will just use a threaded stud into the Dana 20 long enough to go through the adapter ring and into the housing bolt holes. Then put the bolts on and just sandwich everything together. Might be how its supposed to be done in the first place.

Im learning something new everyday throughout this build. Thanks for the replies. I may have been overthinking this one haha.
