I am in the process of restoring my 1976 D20 and I have removed the plugs, springs and the balls and taken out the shift fork screw but the rods wont come out. They are lose to turn and I can move them a bit. But they don´t come out. Any Ideas?

Also is there a vendor who sells the shift rods?

Remove the caps on the back of the case and take a punch and bump them out, shouldn't take much more than a tap to get them moving. Those caps are a press fit, tap them side to side lightly and they will come off.

I have done that and Taped the end but it goes steel to steel quickly. I can only turn the rod 1/4 of a circle.

IF you've done everything you mentioned the only thing left is the detent rods between the shafts. the detent shaft can't hold them both fully seated in the shaft, so one of them should move with a little force. The set screw for the shift fork sets down in the shaft, make sure its backed out far enough. There is nothing else to hold it. They go out where the seal is, which I assume is the direction you are moving them.

JB Fab sells replacement shift rails but they require the use of "T" shift style twin stick. It's worth the upgrade.

It's simple. Put the rear rail in low and the front rail pulls out.
