I have a 77 that is in the process of a restoration and it's either going back to original all Wimbledon White or Matte Black to be different. I know these are Polar opposites but hey, so is my thinking sometimes.....

Who has a Matte Black Bronco they can post pictures of??? NOT Black primer, but a finished product in Black with Matte Clear.

Thanks

IMHO, "matte" finishes are on their way to becoming passé; no offense to those who have them. I remember when they were cool; if I HAD to satisfy the urge to have a matte black vehicle now, I'd get it painted in a normal high gloss finish, then have it wrapped - this from a 57 year old guy that's built 23 vehicles from the ground up, and been around old/classic/muscle cars since he was 12 - your mileage may vary...

As much as I love BLACK, Matte Black to me sucks...I Think Black has got to be the hottest color for any vehicle...let alone a bronco. If I was building a Early Bronco in The SunShine State of Florida...I am thinking white...reflective white....is that a color?..I used To have a Lincoln MVll which was Black on Black on Black.....That was The last Black anything I Will own....WAY TO DANG HOTT.

The one issue I had with the semi-gloss black I did in my F150 was dirt/dust... even after washing it, it looked dirty. The finish had a kind of 'rough' texture that gave dust lots of nooks and crannies to hide in... Wash mitt streaks all over and don't even think of waxing it! (white residue) Believe it or not, I used Pledge after washing get the finish to look decent.

I love the look, wouldn't do it again.

I've heard of some guys spraying the matte with a semi gloss clear coat and being fairly happy.

Paint is gloss white, wrap it in black matte vinyl. Once you're tired of the matte black, just peel it off and have a brand new car. The vinyl place around me charge 2-3k for a 'color change' wrap though. They even do the door jambs - can't even tell it's wrapped.

I agree with the comments on the matte black looking dirty all the time. With that said, I actually love the look but it's very difficult to pull off and look good. I have seen a few broncos and trucks in general but they didn't look good at all. The only vehicle I have seen pull it off and look awesome was a 2 door BMW.

But the only one you need to please is yourself. Can't wait to see it done regardless of which way you go.

I say original white then spray it with plastidip to get your matte black less expensive than wrapping.

I love satin paint if it's done right!

I went with SEM "Smoke". It's a gunmetal grey with lots of metallic. It is damn close if not exactly the same color as the Icon Bronco and all I get is compliments. BTW, I live in Florida and it's hotter than fish grease no matter what you drive!

I've never seen a matte black paint job that I've liked. A gunmetal would be cool though. Matte black reminds me of primer jobs used on old hot rods. Now with the whole rat rod thing, no thanks...

I actually have considered painting the Bronco original Wimbledon White, then maybe wrapped (Matte Black, Camo, Carbon Fiber). A lot of extra work/expense though.

Not quite ready to go to body shop yet. So, I have time to figure out the options.

Thanks

I am very happy with the satin finish. Cleans easy and has some shine to it. Much better than just flat IMO. My paint guy suggested it and he was 100% right. Once again IMO.
