My Detroit has been bullet proof.

Yukon makes a copy out of better material.

those things are usually bullet proof.

that had to be some kind of manufacturing defect. I bet Detroit would like to see it...............

Had the same thing happen with an ARB unit. The unit didn't cause the failure, the shop caused the failure. They didn't tighten the ring gear bolts and after a few thousand miles it broke in two. I could see the imprint of the ring gear bolts in the sides of the ring gear holes. The loose bolts allowed enough stress to break the unit just like yours did. By the way, if you're looking to get screwed bad, take your rig to Apple Hill in Muncy, PA, they would be happy to do half what they billed you for and do it as poorly as possible, then tell you to get bent afterwards.

Had the same thing happen to my Detroit Locker right at the flange and it was only 13-14 months old. They wouldn't warranty it either. The chity thing is, my Bronco sits 5 months out of the year and during the drive time, it was only street driven.

Have seen Detroits do that for 30 years and heard of them doing that far longer. Never been sure what the reasons were. The first one was in a friend's EB with a 351c and C6 auto. And even with all that power available, Royce typically had a very light right foot.
Broke it on the way to work one morning. Can't remember for sure, but I think he might have mentioned having had one do that before. Been a long time though.

Sorry you guys are having the same issue. Bad thing about every company that has owned the Detroit Locker name is customer service for mere civilians has been next to non-existant. Trachtech was no easier to corner on an issue. At least they make the TrueTrac (sp?) which is a great limited-slip and doesn't seem to break very often.

The good news is that even if you do manage to break a Yukon, they're very good at standing behind theirs and warrantying it. And they answer the phones on a very regular basis too!
They're geared (pun intended) more towards the retail market anyway, while Eaton is geared more towards talking to the big guys in the room. If you work for GM or the Army, you probably get a call back.

That said, I did talk to a Trachtech rep once.;)

My last Detroit was marked Made in Poland. No wonder they don't answer the phone.

Wow.....makes me glad I bought an old used one. I figure it has been stress tested.
I guess I will see how it goes.
