Did I buy too much fuel pump?

I purchased one of the Blue Holley electric fuels pumps about a year or so for my I6 to V8 conversion project. Now it's time to install but before I do I'm wondering if it's too much pump for what I need? The pump is rated to flow 95 gph at 7 psi and supposedly the regulator that comes with it is adjustable down to 4.5 psi.

My set-up will be a new Ford crate engine with the E303 cam, Weiand Stealth intake, and an old Holley 600cfm. I'd say this should be well in excess of 300 horsepower.

What amount of psi and gph is ideal for this type of set-up? The truck will probably be used on the street 95% of the time.

LOL..you will be fine if you start out at around 5-6 psi. The pump is noisy and has the capacity to feed two of your neighhbors trucks at the same time as yours..but no worries on it working right. ;D

As bmc69 said, that pump is fine but make sure you install the regulator ! And you will want to put some type of filter in your line before the pump. :)

After a test drive in my RV with a blue pump I took it back and complained that my RV quit on me twice. Store owner said it was for drag racing and was not intended to run continuously. He let me trade it in for a red one. It seems they have thermal switch built in that shuts them off when they get to hot.

i would tie the pump into the oil pressure switch. so when the engine dies, as will the pump. if you are 4-wheeling, 4psi is recommended to the needle and seat. if the pump is in a location it will get wet and muddy, it will destroy it. i am speaking from personal experiance.

you can also run a return line back to your fuel tank to dump the pump instead of dead heading it when the carb float shuts at idles, I dont think it will over come the needle valve on the float, but this does render two problems if it does. ;D

I know of several street cars and my drag car running the blue with the regulator in and turned to about 5 psi and they run great... They are NOISY if not isolated...but you know when it isn't working if you don't see that hummm..

Personally wouldn't buy another holley pump. After using Mallory pumps on my Mustang I wouldn't buy anything else. They make a third the noise, way more reliable ( will never leak ), replaceable brushes ( not that you would ever need too ), built in bypass, and they are purrrrty ! A 110 pump is all most would ever need and a 140 will run up to 650 HP without a problem. :)
