I thought once I saw a pic and a write up on an EB with a four cylinder cummins in it. Does anyone know where that Bronco is and/or the write up? For that matter has anyone heard of any other kind of diesel conversion? Just curious on how tough it would be... the torque would be great for wheeling.

Cumming....awwww...I thought about using the small Ford diesel for a conversion later in life. And yes Ford does make a 4 cylinder diesel. The only problem is it is sold in Africa and Latin America markets so trying to get one imported would be a pain.

hmmm I don't think they are sold in the US for emission reason but I think you could import one as long as it met standards once you were done...but I am probably wrong on this aspect.

before I swapped my 200 for my 302, I was researching installing a Perkins 4cl intercooled/ turbocharged. It would have just what I wanted in MY EB,' Till I priced it all, right at $10,000.00 to do it right. I would still concider it If it wasn't for someone that says they are going to win the megamillions in New York. I guess if they are going to win then I can't.:'( :'( :'(

I know a guy named Barry has a 4bt Cummins in a '68 EB. He plans to have it at the Fawl Crawl in Tellico. The 4bt is quite common and parts are readily available. They are rated at 130hp and loads of torque.

why dont you buy yourself a sammy, diesel conversions are pretty common in those arent they? tow it with your bronco, but dont disgrace the bronco with a 4cyl diesel. same as installing a chebby engine:'(

The 4bt is the baby brother of the 6bt, better known as the 12V Cummins found in pre '98.5 Dodge pickups (also found in heavy equipment and Gen sets).

the cool thing is that the aftermarket parts for the 12V will interchange with the 4bt, so injectors, pump mods and turbos are available to make some crazy power. There are guys running around with streetable 6bts pushing 700 hp and 1500 ftlbs of torque. probably wouldn't take much to get the little 4bt into the 300 hp 600 ftlb range ;D

I'd like to see the new topless bronco

if they built it I'm sure lots of people would buy one. Heck I will just be glad to get mine running and do improvements to it over the next 20 years until its close to what I want it to be. ....still dreaming away......maybe one day!

Sorry dude, I was talking about the Diesel Engine, not a topless bronco. Unfortunatly, I think both are pipe dreams.

Sounds like the Cummins 4bt is the way to go. I still need to find someone with a write up to see how much is involved and what kind of drive train is backing it up.
