I’m having my axles rebuilt and was wondering what the easiest way to go
about adding disc brakes to the rear end of my 76’. I’d like to do the explorer disc brake conversion. My question is what axle shaft should i put back in the rear end to make for an easy install with explorer setup. The shop said they are going to put 31 spine moser axles back in it. Will that work? The stock rearend was 28 spine with (big ford) new style ends. maybe i can get some pics up tomorrow of the rear end. Just want to get a jump on this before they order parts and start to rebuild.

Quick go to Wild Horses or BC.

Wild Horses has a number of options they're all good.

BC Broncos has the same rear disc kit that I used so I obviously liked it a lot.

BC's kit allows you to buy it in stages if you'd like.

This was just covered. I dont think the explorer kit will fit your housing. You need the torino size ends. Buy the brackets from bc and the rest from napa. Yes you can find cheaper brackets but the bc ones put the bleeders in the correct place. Most the others dont and it's a pita to bleed em.

And the number of splines in the diff won't change how disc brakes do or don't mount. However the axle flange bearing offset and (as mentioned) the style of outer housing end/bolt pattern you have does make all the difference.

If it's a bolt-on kit you need the right housing ends, or the right brake kit to fit what you have.
If it's a weld-on bracket type, the style of housing end may not make a difference, but the axle flange offset might still be a factor. Often brackets include spacers to offset the caliper to fit the offset, but not always.

And then there is the rotor. Here the style of axle you have makes all the difference. So don't have your guy order the Mosers just yet would be my advice.
Choose your disc brake kit and axles at the same time so you know they will play nice together.

Once again thanks for the good info. I will checking out some stuff on which route i should go. Either finding a (torino style rear end) for the direct bolt on with currie rotors or buying the the bracket setup from one of our vendors. How hard are ford 9” with torino ends to find?

I don't know if this helps or hurts (nothing against the vendors here) but check out the ebay links below.

No ebrake or hardware:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Bronc...7795?hash=item35c2f5af53:g:LVsAAOxymBlQ3dDxNo

With ebrake (but you need to know what you are doing or it will cost you:

Last and final statement: By from a EB Vendor and rely on their combined knowledge and experience..... Priceless trust me

Good luck

I think 74-75 Broncos had the torino ends but not sure. You can buy just the ends to weld on but that's more hassle than it's worth

That is my understanding as well... 74/75 Bronco had the Torino style rear.
