I will be doing the disc brake conversion on an all drum 74 Bronco with the 78 Bronco knuckles, and for now, without power assistance. Will a 76/77 brake master cylinder work with this set-up?

Yes the '76/'77 master cylinder is made for a disc/drum system. This system also includes a metering and proportioning or combination valve to work properly.

When I replaced my non-power drum/drum master cylinder about 30 years ago, the parts guy told me there was a restrictor in the output port of the front reservoir. He said if I went with discs at some point I could remove that restrictor.

Anyone run into this option? I may put discs on mine some day but likely to just replace the master cylinder at that time.

Yes, the drum brake masters have residual pressure valves in both ports. If you're doing a disc conversion, you need to remove that valve from the port for the front brakes.

I did the same.....74 Bronco, all ford conversion from 78/79 Bronco.

I used the 74 Bronco Drum/Drum MC with the residual pressure valves removed. Also just use the standard 74 Bronco H block. Most reman MC's come without RPV's now days. Easy way to check, stick a pick in the port holes. If they bottom out on metal the valve is not there......

Been working great for 15 plus years now.

the ford swap can use the stock bore master cylinder. when you do the Chevy swop the you usually have to swap in at least a 1-1/16 bore master.

If you choose a stock master that originally came with power brakes, the ports are on the engine side to accommodate the angled bracket. If you choose the master for manual brakes for the same years, the ports should be on the side away from the engine.
Just something to be aware of when making the new lines to work. Not sure if the ports are the same size as the original '74 master, but if they are and you get the correct master you should be able to use the existing lines if they are still in good shape.

Hey Paul, what he means by that is when you click on the PDF file on your website, it comes up with an error...

Sorry this correction is taking longer than normal. Still working on getting a working link for those instructions. Not sure if this one just links to the manufacturer's site, but we usually receive the PDF's from the manufacturer and then load them directly to our own site.
Apparently this issue is a bit different.

But please stay tuned.
