Last year during Super Celebration East, we had a small engine fire that burned down my distributor. Its taken a while to gather some parts but I am switching to a new 4 barrel intake, new carb and a new distributor. Right after I started tearing down the top of the engine, we got hit with a tornado in January, fortunately the house and shop are fine but I ended up with a broken arm and that put a hold on any Bronco work until I healed and got a lot of trees cut.
As I was pulling the distributor out, it was very difficult to remove and I knew that the shaft was not releasing from bottom of the distributor. The clip between the oil pump and the block slid down and off the shaft and I assume its in the oil pan now. I managed to get the distributor out and had to forcefully remove the oil pump shaft from the distributor.
So my question for the experts here, can I drop the pan and oil pump to get the new shaft (bought a new Melling oil pump shaft) back in? I know I will probably have to jack the engine up some to get the oil pan out. Or is a date with an engine hoist in my future? If so, I guess a new clutch and twin sticks will go in too. Here are a few pictures of the shaft and melted distributor.
