Do I need to use a spring compressor to remove the front coils?

If you support it from the frame and just let the axle droop, you wont need a spring compressor. You will need a arm puller though

well from my experiences, its no the the compressor and no to the puller as well, my springs came right out and my arm come right off. But i dont know how yours will be. My arm is kinda worn out i think, so thats prolly why it comes off easily. I would take off your drag link and try to take it off, if it comes off you dont need one.

I didn't need one. I just lifted the body up and dropped the axle. Take out the top spring clip before you drop it though. Actually. If you lift the body and let the axle drop the springs usually stretch enough to allow you to get a socket in there to undo the bottom spring retainer too. Like I said in an earlier post though. Soak the piss out of the bottom ones. I snapped 2 of them off. Makes a person happy when that happens ::)

Depending on the condition of your bottom cups it isn't a bad idea to get new cups while you're at it. I didn't, had to weld a piece back in that was cracked out. Well that one is ok but my pass. side cup is leaning towards the knuckle now causing my spring to bow out towards the tire in the middle. It was just rusting bad enough to weaken and thin the metal out.

I wouldn't think the retainer would be bad enough not to reuse though. Most of the water would settle in the cup.

just my .00000002 cents :) I just wish I had done it right the first time. It's not too much fun doing things over!!

I've never seen a pitman arm come off easy, I would just either buy one or find a friend that has one. Springs should come out easy as long as you have some tall jackstands.
