Does anyone remember KC's Budget Daylighters?

I remember back in the 80's KC offered us that were strapped for cash a set of Budget KC Daylighters, they were chrome, and had the official KC (Wagner 4049) sealed beam (that still are the best long range light IMHO), but the mount and the retaining rings were different than the real Daylighters.

They came in a brown paper page with no sticker....That was what I really wanted was the sticker!

Am I the only one who remembers these? :p

I am pretty sure that is what these are on Ebay...

Hard to tell from the picture, but they look about right from what I recall. You can clearly see the difference in the mount and the retaining rings.

Here is another set for sale...

;D

Just thought that I would share...

I remember them.
If I remember right the rubber mounted Daylighters were 150W and the budget Hilites ones were 100W.
I picked up a new in the box set of 150W a few months ago off CL for 20 bucks.
I could get to the guy fast enough.
I think they still have stickers in the box. Not sure which ones.

LOL! I picked up a set of 150W chrome one's from Ebay the other week. I did not get them for only 20 bucks though.

I think the seller knew what he had so I got them for 60.00, but still very happy with the purchase. I mounted them on my every day driver.

I have HID converted Hella Ralleye's on my Bronco, and while they're extremely bright and you can see forever, I still think that there is nothing like a set of 150W sealed beam old school KC's on a dark road. :D

I don't recall the budget version being any less brighter than the full versions, but they were still amazing none the less.

Nice work. I should have done my homework! %)

Regardless, I am happy to have a set of them again.

Yeah, I bought a Toyota 4x4 pu in 1982 (my first 4x4) and put 5 KC's on my light bar. Then I bought a brush guard and put 2 SEV Marchal lights on it. That's back when I was cool:cool:. I had a 4" suspension lift on it and 36" RVTs. That was a pretty big truck in 1982.

Man all this "Back in the day" talk made me think of the Dick Cepek DC1000.
They were 9x6 210W and 1,000,000cp. They had a scoop to route air over the back of the light.

Don't recall those. Must have been too expensive for me back in the day. I did have a set of Cibie Z Beams to go with my Budget Daylighters...

There ya go...Top that for Old School!

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but I picked up a pair of these on sale from Summit years ago, I think it was $20 for the pair. They are 100 watt bulbs that are pretty bright and they (kind of) have the old KC look. Plus rather than chrome housings (that will pit and look bad in a few years) they're stainless.

Slap a pair of KC smiley face covers on them and you're set!

I have a pair of 150W Daylighters mounted on my front bumper. Bought them new. They are pretty pointless. They have a pencil beam which is great for long, straight, smooth roads, but once you hit a trail, or get on some twists, all you see are two white dots bouncing around and glaring back at you. Makes it impossible to see anything! For trails I like either a good driving pattern or a flood pattern. JMHO

:cry:While on the subject of lights,I had a co-worker with a lifted '76 chevy with 4 KC's mounted to the rollbar. He lent it to a girl to go pick up someone at the airport. She drove into the parking garage.....Guess what didn't fit.Jammed it in tight, they had to let the air out of the tires to get it out.

I picked up the hella 500 at walmart, they were in the discount isle, for $5, grouped with a bunch of the normally $20 lights marked down to $5. I bought a bunch to put on the tractor and 4-wheeler. The hellas were a score.

I checked all of the local Walmarts a few months back when I heard about the sale on Hella lights. No luck...Great work on snagging some!
