Does The Speedometer Female Plug Strip?

I know there has to be a better title for my post, but nothing better was coming to mind.

What I am referring to is the female plug on the back of the speedo where the speedo cable attaches. I have a new speedo cable and when I plug it in, the speedo does not move, there is just a clicking noise when in motion. I am trying to figure out if I just don;t have it installed correctly (far enough in) or does that female plug ever strip and is that my issue.

Thoughts?

Thanks - F

If you still have your old cable, you can compare the length of the drive spud that goes into the speedo.
I had that happen after replacing the cable. The drive spud was too short. I had bought it from one of our vendors. They checked their entire stock and found several more with the same defect. They had come from Dennis Carpenter. The vendor sent me another in a next-day envelope.

Unfortunately, the old one is long gone. I will dig up my receipt and give the vendor a shout to see if they have had any problems like that.
