Door seal removal and installation

I removed my old weather stripping around the door frames and I am getting ready to replace them.

Before I install the new ones what can I do to remove the residue from the old doors? I have already scraped them with a razor blade and there is still some black rubber.

Also, should I use any sort of adhesive to attach the new seals?

i used adhesive remover for my 72 forget brand name ... kinda took alittle of the paint off had to sand it down and respray it ... might of just been the old paint gluck

Install when warm and possibly let the rubbers sit out in the sun for a period before install...Also understand the door might not fit as good until the rubbers have settled..probably a couple months according to folks that have done it in the past.

Most auto stores sell "weather strip adhesive". Be generous.....don't skimp. The stuff is really messy and sticks to everything so be patient. Also, when you break off the old plastic "tits" that hold the old weather strip in, be sure to drill them out and not to drill several 1/8" holes in your aux fuel tank. I know a guy that did that on his orange and white '70 :'(
