Door Stops?

I have been working on my '75 again after years of it sitting in various garages while life took me elsewhere. Anyway, after replacing the passenger side door and painting both doors I was unpleasantly reminded of how aggravating it is to have the bloody things constantly bumping into my backside while trying to work on them or something else. I am sick of having to jamb a 2x4 between the door and the rocker to keep them open.

Does anyone make a door stop specifically for the EB or can a set for a Heep be made to work? I found these and it looks like they might work...

You can easily remove the factory " door straps " . Just unscrew either the door bracket or the one under the dash/ kick panel and swing the door out . To protect your fender use something soft between the door and fender. Depending on your door mirror it might hit 1st. The Vendors sell quick detach ones.

Thanks and I've been doing exactly that but I would rather have something a little more useful that will also hold the door open in a safe position when parked on an incline, etc. and not just when I'm working on it.

I put the Ford F 150 Door Checks on my latest build (9L3Z-1522886-A).https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Ford-9L3Z-1522886-Check-Assembly/dp/B00G0LNMW6

Awesome! Any particular reason why you used one for '09-14 F-150s instead of '15 and up? Funny thing is my '18 F-150 is sitting in the garage right beside the Bronco and I never even considered looking at it.

Do you have any photos of your install? I assume it requires a decent size hole in the door shell? Thanks for the tip!

ShoeSlinger, after looking a little closer at the manufacturer's photos of the one you used as well as the ones on my truck I think I have an idea how to install it. I assume you had to install it from inside the door shell meaning you had to drill three holes in the shell. Two for the mounting studs and one in the center for the arm. I also assume there is enough space in the cavity between the door shell and the door jam for the other end of the arm that attaches to the door jam. Is all that correct?

BTW, the door check for the '15 and up is a little less expensive but it might not work as well. I noticed it doesn't have a weather seal like the one you used, if that matters.

I just ordered one and took a chance. Yes the main body is housed in the door and I welded studs that go through the entire A pillar to attach it. Probably overkill but no worries of it being an issue later.

that's a great solution. Are you happy with the results?
I always just used a large 1/2" drive deep socket of about 3/4" size (or probably a 13/16 lug nut socket?) wedged between the hinges.
This would not work on the early versions that had counter-sunk Phillips screws, but my '71 uses hex bolts that sit proud of the hinge plates. The socket locked on to the bolt heads very nicely and as long as I did not bump the door open too many times during a project, I was reasonably satisfied.

But something more "normal" would be nice.

I think I might give the '15 and up version a try. They have three open positions, are about $14 cheaper per side and if they don't work I will have spares for my F-150.

Is there anything inside the door that might interfere? Got a link?[/QUOTE said:
This one doesn't have any good images but it does include the Ford p/n.

When I checked the length of the ones on my '18 F-150 it looks like you need about 6" of clear space inside the door when the door is in the closed position. The closest thing inside the Bronco door appears to be the front window track which is about 12" from the front of the door shell.

Installed one on the passenger side today. This is the '15 and up F-150 door check. I'll get some better measurements and post those later but I basically located it midway between the door hinges and about 1 1/2" from the outside of the door shell. You will need two 6mm hex nuts per side. I also used a 1/4-20 x 2 1/2" hex bolt to attach the door check to the A pillar. I drilled all the way through to the wheel opening which allowed me to put a nut on the inside and also explains the length of the bolt.

As you can see, the arm of the check is a little scraped and beat up. I started with a 1 1/8" dia hole which was not nearly large enough and the arm got gouged on the edge of the hole. I ended up with a rectangular shaped opening. It's a bit larger than necessary and I will try to make it a little more precise on the other side. I will also buy another door check to replace the beat up one and keep this one for a spare.

Works slicker 'n snot! This gives you three open positions just like the F-150. You could actually eliminate the door strap and I probably will.

There's probably gonna be a run on these things so you better order yours now...

Thanks again ShoeSlinger for the awesome idea. Perfect!

Wow! That looks amazing, as well as very practical. I’m gonna keep this kid in mind for when I get close to that stage.

Yep, that's the newest "big thing" for Christmas for sure. And any other time too.
I don't think you're too far off in your warning to get 'em while they're hot (and cheap).
