DOT numbers cut out?

the set of 38" SXs have the DOT numbers cut out of the sidewall, they sections missing are about 3/8" deep. He cut them out so he could get them warranteed he said, cuase the sidewall tread had little cracks in it, so i guess he had to send those numbers in and they would warranty them. Does anyone know if it would be a poor decision to run these tires, i use it on the trail and as a daily driver. Im just wondering if they are safe.

Who is he? Are you thinking about buying them? Do you know this person? That seems pretty retarded that a tire company would require a person to hack up a tire to give them a DOT #.

Stolen comes to mind on this one.

That sounds a little bit like BS, I don't believe any tire company would have someone do that.

3/8ths seems a little too deep to be safe, I'd leave them laying where they are.

I HATE UPSTATE NY
The tires that dont meet specs (blems) go somewhere. The tire mfg cuts off the numbers so they cant be sold as perfect. Alot of times there is nothing wrong other than their letters on the side arent perfect or something. I would be more concerend with a 3/8" trench in the sidewall.

If they are really Blems what size were they for 15 or 16.5" rims?? I am looking for a set of trail tires & wouldn't mind patching or plugging them. Where are you located??

Sounds a bit too suspicious to me.

Besides, what sort of jackass carves up a tire like that, unless they're about to throw it out?

Ask yourself this: Would you bet your LIFE on these tires?

I have a friend with a big Bronco & 38`s. In talking about the tires one day he said he had got a deal on some blems. This was a couple of months ago.
Today I asked if they had cut the numbers off his, well he said they had.
He said his tires have lasted almost 5 yrs, the are just about to be worn out now & he says he`s gonna try to get another set of blems.
I really don`t have an opinion as to the saftey of those tires, but I thought I would share.
Jerry
