dreaded door will not unlock

thanks for all the advice on my trbl.. o and my doors when working correctly anyways lock when i push the thumb button while closing the door after i depress the lock button.. that is for 1970

I had to take the panel off and straighten the rods (size of a close hanger wire) that are attached to the push button lock and inner handle yesterday. Took all of 2 minutes. The rods bend easily if some kid is palying around with a friend trying to lock 'em out. The lock works like new now.
