I believe I'm going to do that. Now that I got it home I'll be able to play with it and try and get the fan back on it. I'm also going to start putting new seals on everything because I'm getting some leaking around the Tcase/Oilpan and transmission. Not a lot but I just want to try and get it as solid as possible.

That did the trick but I'm not sure what gear I'm in. Should I be in N or 2H? I'm still spitting out some oil, but the dipstick is beat to heck so I'm going to get another one.

Since I have you're ears... I'm also running an electric fan (ONLY) because the fan was hitting my radiator due to the way the engine sits on the mounts. I have a new radiator and shrowd with the electric fan attached to the radiator inside the shrowd. Is this enough to keep the engine cool? I haven't messed with the thermestate yet..

Thanks,

VET
mine was spitting oil out of the dipstick and i tried eveything to fix it
turned out the rings were cracked and it was building to much preasure in the case and that is were the oil had to come out

Now why did you have to go rain on my parade! Just kidding. I will keep that in mind if when I get the new dipstick and it doesn't work.

before you do anything else, start it up and take off the breather cap off of the valve cover if you feel pressure coming out of the valve cover you have blow by. that would mean you more than likely your rings are shot. sorry not good news

If you do ID blow-by, and if the motor has been sitting for years, the rings could be sticking, might try a dose of seafoam in the motor oil , drive it around easy for 30 minutes then drain and change oil.

Skeddy said check thr egr valve. That valve is cheap and if it plugs it will give you the same simptems as bad rings. (excessive blow by)

He dont have a EGR valve and in all reality it really should lead to excessive blow by if it was bad as it just lets more exhuast into the intake it has nothing to do with the crankcase or build up of pressure.

check to make sure it has a PVC valve and it is working correctly.

Seafoam? I drove it around again today and I'm still loosing oil from the dipstick and I think the seal around my oil pan. After driving it a bit I'm unable to re start it until it cools down.

Help, if you can..

Thanks,
Vet

So, I drove it today and pulled it into the garage and oil was eveywhere. Tried to start it back up but wouldn't. I waited a few hours and it started, took the PCV valve and hose out of valve cover and I felt pressure on my hand coming out of the valve cover with some white smoke, not a lot, but white smoke. If my rings are shot does that mean it engine rebuild time or replace engine time?

Any other options would be great.

I'd say its rebuild time if you can feel pressure coming out of the valve cover at idle then its pretty much worn out.
I like Seafoam its worked for me but I dont think its going to help you any. Most parts stores carry it ie autozone ect. I've even seen it in walmart.

Ahhh I did not want to rebuild this! So, when I removed the PCV from the valve cover and felt littl puffs off air on my hand that is a bad thing? How does the PCV work, what if it was bad? I guess I'm just reaching for straws here.

If your getting puffs you can feel at idle then I'd say the rings are shot, could be valve giudes/seals are shot or maybe a piston has a hole in it or a valve has dropped.
The PCV valve sucks out excess combustion gases that normally get by the rings or valve seals it does a couple of things helps keep the oil seals and other gaskets from blowing out and pulls contaminates from combustion out of the engine which helps keep the oil cleaner. In engine in good condition there will be very little blowby. Heck even well worn engine usually dont have much blowby.
You dont have to have a PCV valve older engines didnt have them they just had a tube that allowed the pressure to vent. but usually you would tend to leave oil spots with those old engines. And a PCV system is just a better method of getting the blowby out of the engine.

The only engine I've ever felt puffs come out of the breather at idle was a engine that dropped a valve. but it ran really rough so I know something major was wrong already.

Overall I think your best bet is a rebuild or a new engine.

With the pcv valve in place remove the vented cap/hose from the other valve cover.See if you have pressure/smoke coming out of that side even with the pcv in place. There should be no pressure coming out and it actually should have a slight suction. This will tell you if you have more blow-by than your pcv system can handle.

The no start after hot issue sounds like your fuel in the carb is getting too hot and boiling. This will make it very hard to start.

I did what you said and Yes there is white smoke coming from the other side. I believe I do have a spacer on my carb I have a picture in my gallery. You're also talking to a person that doesn't know much about engines, but I'm sure learning fast since I bought this guy.
