drum brake self adjuster question

I just tore apart my front and rear drum brakes on my '68 to do a brake job and not one of the wheels had a self adjuster plate on it. What I'm talking about is the plate that you have to push on so you can back of the star self adjusting wheel. All of the diagrams that I have found show this plate. I went to the parts store and they have a hardware kit that has this plate in it. Did my '68 just not have these plates or did the PO leave them out after doing the last brake job?

I've heard that some people didn't understand how they worked and blamed them for their brake wear and brake pull to right or left. I really like them on the front especially because if you get those front brakes adjusted differently the brakes will pull pretty bad. With the adjusters working right they will both stay the same.

:p :p :p People take them off as when they get old the springs go bad and can keep them ajusted to tight and were out the linnings real fast. I have seen them go in a week. People that ride the brakes are the worst on them. But you can get the kits from the parts store good luck and have fun%) %) %) Bill %) ;D

1966 and possibly '67 Broncos did not have self adjusters, they were manual adjust only. That was standard on 50's police cars and ear T-Birds I know as well. Self adjusters are nice as you don't have to crawl under the vehicle periodocally to run the pads out by hand.

Self adjusters should be factory equipment on all broncos equipped with drums. If yours are missing its because someone deliberately left them off. Not a good idea IMO. Your better parts stores can order the kits that come with all new parts including springs, cables, levers, adjusters, and retainers.

1966 Bronco did not have self adjusters, tech manual states equipped as police interceptors. Toy can put them on I believe as there is an inspection hole for adjusting the pads.
