So this is the system I have. The po for some reason spliced the wires together instead of using the pigtail (circled in the photo). Does anyone have this connection they dont need anymore?

Or can I just purchase a set like the photo and just re splice the wires?

Thanks you in advance for your time/help,

Sonny

Back in the day, most people didn’t know how to find the original connectors, and they were often damaged during removal.
They were also a royal pain to separate, which is why some PO’s (such as myself!) change them out to things like weather packs or the variant that you’re showing your last picture.

That’s what I would use, instead of trying to find an original, or leaving them splice together.

To be sure, the Duraspark connectors were very robust and sealed out weather very well for many years.
The problem right from the beginning was that even when they were brand new, they were too hard to get separated, and you almost always broke the ears off.
Or when you didn’t break them off completely, you bent them up just far enough to where they started to crack. And they never locked down reliably after that.
But the funny thing was, they never really needed the locking tabs because you couldn’t pull them apart, anyway!
Somebody probably got paid extra to design that I guess. 🙄

I always liked the weather packs because you could actually separate them for service.
They were still waterproof, but you could actually make them yourself in the garage, instead of having to buy a premade pigtail.

With quite a few different socket orientations available over the years and different applications under the hood, always make sure you’re getting the correct one.
It’s not just about three, or four pin, male, or female.
It’s about the exact match.

At least the distributor is only a choice of male or female.
They kept the same plugs throughout the entire run of pre-TFI standard Dura Spark distributors.
So there’s that, at least…

So the wires coming off the distributor pigtail are 14 gauge, I cant find a 3 pin 14 gauge pigtail available that I can get by tomorrow. Should I wait for the 14 gauge pigtail or could you go up or down a gauge and be ok? I want to do it right, not just get it done. I'm sure it's a certain gauge for a reason.

Thank you in advance for your time/help,

Sonny

What style of connector/pigtail are you actually looking for?
While I don’t think it’s critical in this situation, whether you go up or down one size due to necessity, I do think you’re doing the right thing to try to keep the same gauge.
Really just that it’s good to keep consistent sizes. If only for consistent splices.

I might just temporarily splice them together and order this pigtail connector and install later.

If I recall correctly, the deutsch connectors require special tools. They area VERY nice German connectors

What kind of special tools? They appear that they are already assembled and just need the wires spliced together? I seen some pigtails that are like the "custom spark ugs" that require a tool to crimp the end fittings?

I apologize, I didn't know Deutsch made pigtails now. I had just seen the kits that one crimps the connectors. Very nice that is an option. I believe they are the best connectors available.

Napa sells those pigtails for the Duraspark. The ones I bought years ago didn't fit perfect with the OEM. You might have to buy both sides of the connecter, but just get the side you need and check the fit before you connect the wires.
