Early Bronco or new Rubicon...

Which one should I buy?..;D Ok, i know the answer i'm going to get here, and i fully understand why. I've owned 4 early Broncos, and a few J**ps along the way (all cj-7) I completely agree the early Bronco is a better vehicle. I'm getting older now (almost 29), and i'm becoming more fond of creature comforts these days, however....this purchase will be my 2nd vehicle. I'm going to sell my 2002 dodge 2500 4x4 diesel in order to buy a little 4cyl ranger for work.....I need the 30mpg. Selling my dodge is going to allow me to buy a toy, and i'm stuck between a new rubicon unlimited and my bro-in-law's frame off 73. His bronco has a 400 hp 302, c4, 4 wheel discs, ps, d20, and sparkles in places you can't see. He never drives it, and i've always been the bronco fanatic, so he told me he'd sell it to me for far less than he paid to have it built. The only reason he bought it was because he liked my last one, and wanted one for himself. When the tab is all said and done (after i buy more goodies for the Bronco), the costs will be close to equal with a little less spent on the Bronco. Talk me into it people!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please help encourage the Bronco purchase.......Give me some reasons...

Easy. Base price for a Rubicon is somewhere in the $28K range. Sure, it is a fairly capable machine. But, give me $28K and I can go and find an EB that will eat that little Rubicon alive (actually, for that price, I can probably find 2 of them that will outmatch the Rubi). I am currently doing a complete frame-off on a '69. My price estimate is well under that Rubi price.

I don't know how much your bro is selling his rig for, but I am guessing that it isn't $28k. Take the difference, dump it into the Bronco and build yourself a complete ANIMAL!! Good luck with your decision.

Personally I dont think you can compare any J**P to an EB. Definitely go with the Early Bronco.;D

I will give you one of many reasons to go with the Bronco, when you drive it people will stop whatever it is they are doing and look at you with mouths agape. In a heep it is just another one of the zillions that barbie is driving around.;D ;D

I'll get the Bronco for somewhere between 12-17K. He has more than 23K in it. I'm thinking 15K + around 5K for bumper/tire carrier, new soft top, family cage from WH, putting in 4.5" ciols and leafs so i can go to 315/75/16's BFG mt's or Goodyear MTR's, 16x8 wheels of some type (i'll have to buy 5 wheels/tires), twin stick d 20 shifters from WH, and numerous things i have'nt thought of yet. I've always built my own bronc's from junk to nice myself, but this gives me an opportunity to but a practically new early Bronco, and add my own touches to it. I can get around 22-24K for my dodge 2500, so if i buy a used ranger single cab 4cyl for around 7-8K.......I can have the Bronco of my dreams and a work vehicle for 30K. My only objection is the creature comforts, but the cool uniqueness of the Bronco outweighs the comforts by far, especially being my 2nd vehicle.

Thanks,

BroncKelly

One more thing...

I hate the c4. Well maybe not hate, but i'd much prefer a nv3550 or 4500. I don't have the equipment needed to do the swap, so i know i'm going to have to fork out some $$$ for that swap if i go for it. Any idea what that kind of swap will cost me?....i'm thinking somewhere between 2-4K depending on which tranny i go with....right?

I'll use the c4 for a while though.

Yeah,

I thought about that. It has 4whl discs now, and stops very well. I would like to go to PB though.

I wouldn't be too fast to hop on that band wagon... if ya stop good now... why change it!

I dig the feed-back ya get from the manual brakes, where as with power it's like hit'n the CLAMPS!!!!!

%) but it's YOU drive'n it not me! ;D

hope it helps! Oh ya!!! That bit about the people check'n ya out... it's about like drive'n a ferarri as far as the looks and reaction ya get from folks... SO ya ditch the rubicon idea.

Slick,

you're right about the people watching. People seem to break their necks to check out Broncos....me included. I know what you mean about "the clamps" too. The pb will be last on the list.

Thanks for the help.

Bronco, -appears well restored, trustworthy inside deal, shouldn't depreciate as much if any, and knowing that this Bronco will be used as a 2nd vehicle, the Bronco wins hands down. Please keep it garaged during the winter. I lived in the UP for 25 years. Michigan Winters eat Early Broncos.

Bronckelly-

STOP! [PUT ON YOUR FLAME SUIT]

IS IT ON, then proceed...

I am really not trying to be a dick, but the whole time I read your post...I sat there shaking my head. Get a girlfriend or a wife and get some or-- maybe--get your "member" back out of their purse or the refrigerator...my God 29 is not old!!! Get a life, if you've owned a Bronco and still have to ask--after knowing what, how, where, etc this particular Bronco was built, then you should check your member back into wherever it gets stored for you and definitely buy the Rubi!!

Thats "Tought Love" Bronco-style. I am sure you are a cool and nice guy, but come on, man??? Buy or build what you want, ask for advice on how to get there; your apparently not a NEWBIE, so do what you need to do and be happy.

If you want manual and are looking for a built rig with goodies and balls, contact Heinz 57, he is selling his Cummins deisel powered Bronco...built to run and @ 30mpg, built to travel. There are other really nice, well built Broncos that come available from time to time as well...it all depends on what YOU want and what YOU are willing to DO (OR SPEND) to get there. Copy-boxes are available in every town with a Jeep dealer; its your choice.

I second that. Heinz's bronco is AWESOME. He has done a ton of stuff to it, and 30 mpg - have your cake and eat it too!!

No offense taken,

This is the encouragement i need. I've been without my last Bronco for about 1 1/2 years now, and i've become soft while driving around my cummins dodge. I know all about the water leaks, weak heat, little things going wrong..etc....Those nice seats, cruise control, and air condition are kinda nice.....

But i completely understand what you're saying....kinda. ;) I get the jest, at least. I'm going to buy the Bronco, or at least that's the way i'm headed right now. I saw heinz 57's rig for sale last week, and believe me.....i'm a fan of the cummins diesel. I drive the slight larger version as we type. I'm kinda afraid to jump into the unknown convention of one put into an early bronco though. I'm sure it's incredible, but I know this Bronco that lives in the garage nextdoor to me. Heinz 57 created an awesome machine, but he knows that vehicle, and i know the one i'm thinking of buying......I'm the one that does the mantenence to it....and i've driven it weekly since day 1. I appreciate the kick in the butt from you all..........

By the way, my wife votes for the Bronco. ;D Need i say more?
