I use a shop vac to get as much of the coolant out as I can , plus paper towels etc.
You should be good after that.
I had to use the intake gasket part number for my 69 motor and heads , the Explorer gasket leaked like a sieve. So , yeah , I been where you are.
The posts I read said to use a small amount of rtv on the corners of the oil gaskets** and a very thin layer around the water jackets to seal them up.
**or skip the little cork oil gaskets and just use a good bead of rtv. Which is what I did , but after a few years , my old ass motor has so much blow-by , I think it blew out the rtv a little bit during one of my hi-rpm moments.
The decision is yours to make ....
