I am in the process of replacing my entire fuel system. Does anyone have advice on inline electric fuel pumps? Manufacturer, type, etc...I have an Edelbrock intake and 650 carb (289). Thanks!

Based on my reading on this site, I am about to order the Carter P4070 myself. About $80 at most online retailers.

Most parts stores also carry it. I know NAPA has them about the same price.

Same pump here since 2004 with no problems. If you frame mount it rather than to sheet metal it's fairly quiet also.

The carter is a nice pump, works good, but it is very noisy, too noisy, I'm going to change mine to a quieter brand. Just my opinion.

I ran into problems finding the Carter pump over the shelf in Socal so I went with the Holley Red. Everyone stocks those. Great pump and I run both tanks with it.

Mine is loud too. Despite being mounted to the frame, I can hear it over the idling of the motor. It gets better after a few minutes though.

Same here on the Carter. I run dual stock tanks so I Frame Mounted it just to the rear of the front tank. I also mounted the electric tank selector switch next to it, and a fuel filter in front of the entire Assembly. Finally I built a stainless steel sheet metal guard to cover the entire assembly. 15 years and No problems. I cannot hear the pump with the engine running but I can with the key on engine off.

I've thought about doing a sheet metal guard too, more to quiet it down than to protect it. Can I see a picture of yours?

Thanks, Newell

Jeeze!!!! I have THREE TANKS ON MY BRONCO.....have been running a standard mechaniclal pump for 35 years. What's with changing all this stuff. If it ain't broke don't f@#% with it. Adding all this electrical extra stuff causes nothin but more problems.

I had several reasons for changing over -
1) I saw several mechanical fuel pumps develop oil leaks over the years. Maybe I had bad luck, or I was getting them from the wrong vendors.
2) Mechanical fuel pumps transmit a lot of heat to the gasoline which can promote vaporlock.
3) An upgraded timing chain (and sprockets) doesn't leave enough space for a fuel pump cam.

My reason for an electric pump is because I am running a (new in 95) Gt40 351W. It had no mechanical fuel pump ecentric on the cam shaft. And in all this time my Carter pump has has No issues. Electric fuel pumps Don't like to be run out of fuel. Don't run them dry before switching tanks and they will last for 20 years.
