I have dual glass packs on my 72 and I am getting ready to put new ones on soon.
Why am I seeing so many Broncos online with a single exhaust system?

It's quiet

I outgrew loud duals when I was a young man. Now, I want to talk with my passengers and enjoy the ride.

Two big reasons:

1. Dual exhausts are loud.

2. Dual exhausts only help performance at higher RPM than most Bronco engines are ever driven at.

Single exhaust sure aids in packaging under the chassis. I will eventually go back to single. A Flowmaster Delta 50 will be darn near silent.

The drive train especially the transfer case really only leaves room on the passenger side for a pipe to easily get around. Trucks aren't Mustangs or other muscle/sports cars. So the whole chassis and drive train was designed for single exhaust. That's not a problem, when Escalades and Navigators with far more HP can do well with single exhaust and do it very quietly.

Have a custom single made with slightly larger pipe. Like 2 1/4. Have it come out in the stock location. Looks good and you have whatever muffler put on that you want. Quit or loud.

I love my cherry bomb glass packs cuz I felt nostalgic when building my exhaust, they're loud and I love it, its not a daily driver so that's what I built, a true dual exhaust which dumps out in front of the rear axle, freakin thing sounds like a Nascar why would you want to suppress that lol. Just my 02 ;D:cool:

going with a single. want it as quiet as possible. the drone on a trail when you're stacked up in line REALLY gets old after an hour.

My Bronco was dual glasspacks, and burned out glasspacks at that, loud as crap! When to a single exit pipe, and some sort of Flowmaster muffler. Still makes some noise when on the gas, and still sounds ok when cruising down the Hwy.

Dual cherry bomb for me. Love them. I can short shift and be nice to the neighbors or I can get loud and announce my presents with authority.... Not my DD it's a toy and I'll always be a kid......

Actually, the glass-packs are a perfect item for a single-sided exhaust. Not a "single" exhaust, but both halves of the dual system routed down the one side.
This is relatively compact (glass-packs are just that), easy to keep away from all the other important stuff on the driver's side (brake lines, wires, fuel, etc...) and much easier to tie together with either a crossover tube, or X-pipe or H-pipe for that little extra tuning.

Personally, if done right I think the dual tips angled out of one corner look pretty slick.
And it never hurts to be just that little bit of different either.

My super single exhaust systems are not quiet .... it's just so much easier and cleaner to go with a single exhaust in these 4wd rigs. I go with dual pipes all the way to muffler and single pipe out of that.

I've been down this road long ago. I solved it by doing a two-into-one-into-two exhaust. From the headers the exhaust dumps into a 3 inch pipe with a cat, then a single 15 inch Flowmaster, and from there it splits into a dual 2. 5 inch outlet on both sides. I like the symmetry of duals in the back, but the sound and smoothness of a single. So problem solved.

I've got duals with an "H" pipe then Magnaflows. It's pretty quiet.
But, my favorite has always been true duals with cheap turbo mufflers into 2" tailpipes. It makes that cool raspy "Bullitt" tone.

I'm afraid there's still "little boy" left in this old guy. I love the tone of duals. It's the soul of a V8.;)

If I had a mostly stock unlifted, true duals with crossover. To many mods however so only way to fit it is a 2 into 2 with 1 exhaust pipe.

Mine is true duals. I have a 1" body lift so i had my exhaust guy (he is an artist of exhaustby the way) run the passenger side up high and the driver side down and across in between the oil pan and bel housing. And up to just below the passenger side. Then the two run one on top of the other until the drivers side gets just past the transfer case. Then the drivers side crosses back over under neath the output shaft of the transfer case and turns back to the muffler. The passenger side bends down just past the drivers side to get the pipes at the same level so mufflers are the same level and angled the same. Then both go over the axel and along the edge of the fas tank hugging the frame tight and then they turn out just behind the rear shackle and the tips are angled and are even with the outside edge of the quarter panel. I used 18 year old super turbos. I love the mellow sound and when i get on it it is fairly loud. It has a little cackle on deceleration but im am going to have him put an x pipe in to suppress that
