Exploder heater tube ...material that seals the nut to the tube

What material seals the metal heater tube on the Exploder intake to the nut that holds it down to the manifold?

Is it strictly a friction seal as I have it torqued down and the heater hose tube moves side to side...kinda wondering how it seals and don't want it burping green stuff all over upon start-up.

Who's running one of these or have pulled it apart?

It's supposed to move like that. I've put a bunch of them in and they never leak. I recommend just using straight water on an initial startup though. A couple months ago I had a brand new water pump leaking on my new 351w.

That's encouraging! Thanks....here's another question...why can't the ECT sensor be mounted in the t-stat housing...I know it's on the back side of the t-stat but with a weep hole it would still be exposed to pre-stat engine temperature water...
thoughts?

You probably could if it had a weep hole. I like to use the front manifold hole if possible or the heater tube location. My 351w uses only one temp sensor and the Dakota digital gauge pulls the gauge temp directly from the ECM.

That's a real advantage with the Dakota guage cluster then...nice!!

I think I'm going to try it in front of the t-stat with a weep hole then...my engine opens the t-stat in 1 to 1 1/2miles on a 20degree morning so it won't be lacking for water flow for long...

Maybe the original Explorer setup didn't utilize that postion because of the coil packs?
Probably found the heater tube to be a convenient and reliable location.

Could be Paul...I know the heater tubes had small feeder tubes on them so there was fresh coolant washing past the sensor all the time even without the heater on.

I'm going to try the sensor in the t-stat housing. By the end of the today hopefully all I'll need to do before firing the new EFI and EDIS combination up will be plumbing my in-line pump that's in the tank with the multiple fuel pickups... waiting for a part...again...the drawback to living in a John Deere only community... lol

Once again, thanks for the helpful tips everyone.
