No bodylift. Looks like it rests on the hood support.

I'll figure it but interested on what others did.
what was your fix?

What are you doing? Never heard of hood clearance issues before. The distributor cap looks even taller. Something looks very odd. Generally the only issue is the power steering sits too high, how does yours look?

I agree with Broncobowsher, something is off. I initially installed my Explorer serp without a body lift and I was running extreme engine mounts, and didn't have a clearance problem. The only item that was close to my hood was the oil fill on the valve cover.

I don't think your bracket is mounted in the correct holes on the head or something. The alternator usually sits almost in front of the cylinder head, even on a 351

Did you put the heavy duty motor mounts in

The alternator backs up to the valve cover. That looks right.
It really looks like the whole engine is sitting high.

Have you tried closing the hood yet?

I remember scavenging a setup out of a F250 years ago and the alternator sat high like that. Makes me wonder if some one sold you one from a truck and said it was from an Explorer.

What motor mounts are you using? My understanding is that the Heavy duty motor mount also raise the entire engine. How much? Not sure

Extreme engine mounts, no bodylift, new body bushings, 351W.

it does touch the hood support. if hood is slammed shut, there will be contact.

No body lift, a 351 and some types of extreme motor mounts. Plus if the engine is tilted even slightly more than normal I think you have your answer.

Another tell with a 302 would be how much clearance you have between the lower idler pulley on the passenger side and the top of the crossmember. With a 351 I don't know how much that relationship changes, but let us know what your gap is there and whether you have the large idler or the small idler.

Whether you like them or not, I see a 1" body lift in your future. It's certainly the lesser of two evils between lifting or cutting.
Are you going to run a carburetor, or is this a Ford EFI setup?
If EFI you might benefit from a body lift anyway.
