I took some measurements of the EGR hole in the lower intake today and it is 25/32". The 1/2" NPT taps require a hole size of 23/32". I am thinking that a hole 1/16" too big is probably not going to work for the tap. I am going to try it and worst case I will drill it out to use a 3/4" NPT tap and plug. I will update this post with the final, so others will be able to reference it.

You might just drill the hole bigger and deep enough for a brass freeze plug and drive it in so that the upper intake holds it pressed in place so that it can't move.
