Thinking of doing swap when since I need a new water pump. How many holes are in the crank pulley? I currently have a 351w with a 4-bolt balancer.

None.
The pulley is integrated into the damper on an Explorer.

So either have your new Explorer damper rebalanced to 28 ounce like Tasker said, or maybe there’s some other solution out there.
Not sure what else could be done aside from an adapter pulley, other than getting a different damper for your 351 that is a 28 ounce imbalance and is a 3-bolt version.
We have a pulley that adapts a stock Bronco balancer to an Explorer setup, but it’s three bolt only.

Same connector as a 3G, minus the white with black stripe wire.
Same basic wiring set up as 3G, except for not having to connect that same white with black wire.

Explorer setup is a dedicated front cover, water pump, alternator, power steering pump and damper.
The AC is probably not specific to an explorer only, and whether or not you mount it is up to you. But even if you’re not going to utilize it right away, it’s not a bad thing to have.
Other than being in the way. 😉

You may know this already, but you’ll also no longer be able to use a mechanical fuel pump. You’ll have to convert to electric of some type or another.

With the 4g alternator is it just an aftermarket harness to the solenoid /battery area? Currently I have a centech harness with a stock alternator. Already figured I need a different bracket on the driver side for the dual return Saginaw ps pump.

Yes. With any luck, your donor alternator comes with the plug and a little bit of the harness that you can splice into.
You will still utilize the yellow wire and the green with red wire to the old voltage regulator, with your new alternator. Just match the wire colors to each other and you should be good to go.
The main charge wire from the old alternator (which is yellow, I think?) will no longer be attached to the alternator. You will want to find a suitable spot, rather than cutting it off completely, where you can attach it to a power stud or auxiliary fuse panel that you can power other accessories with.
It’s still a heavy duty 10 gauge wire that’s essentially connected to the battery, so it’s good to keep.
Up to you though…

The new charge cable will be routed from the BAT terminal on the aalternator over to the starter relay.
Using a fuse of either Midi, or Mega type is recommended.

The plug is available through most parts stores. I get mine from O'Reilly.
