Explorer front dress

I have a later 302 (1980) with a 4 bolt 28 oz harmonic balancer. Going to a 5.0 explorer front dress. I will use the explorer power steering pump. My question: 1) what water pump is required to run a stock radiator
2) what hoses are required
3) is the explorer timing cover required
Any other information would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Take a look at this link...
http://classicbroncos.com/tech/explorer-5-0-serpentine-accessory-drive-belt-conversion

To answer some of your questions, 96-01 Explorer 5.0 water pump is needed. Either stock or Flowkooler makes a performance version. and yes, the Explorer timing chain cover is unique. If you use a different cover or pump it could throw off belt alignment as the offsets will be different. Explorer system is the most compact accesory drive and all the pcs are engineered to work together.

others will chime in on hoses... I thing '68 GTO is used for upper? lower is usually pieced together.

Explorer water pump is required
Explorer timing cover is required
Stock Rad, then use lower bronco hose, cut as needed to use WH's metal lower Rad adapter pipe. #5031.
Upper hose - couple of variants used, like I believe a 68 GTO with a 400 upper rad hose. Some use a factory Bronco upper (Continental #60710 from Summit racing) install it reversed, cut near center, splice together, rotate as needed. (See Picture) There are other examples of other hoses out there...

You need to rebalance the Explorer HB to 28oz or buy one that has been modified already...

PS reservoir needs to be moved back and down to clear hood brace, unless 2" body lift...

I'm not running EFI, at least not from the explorer. I have an explorer HB but need 28 oz not 50. And the one I am running is a 4 bolt.

Summit has one that looks like it would work fine with some back spacing.
523500 pulley???
191.00 for a drilled 50 oz explorer HB seems steep!

Crickets.....

So you need to chill... Not everyone is on the Site 24/7, well maybe a few are ;D

There must be a 100 threads on doing an Explorer front dress swap... I don't recall that anyone has suggested using the pulley you have brought forward.
Maybe someone will chime in about their experiences soon, or not?

You might be the guy that has to buy it and do the test fitting for the rest of us. By the way, we all appreciate those folks who take the time to do stuff like that.

The WH's part, will not work because it is for a 3 bolt HB and yours is a 4.
Right now that leaves spending the 191.00 for a known part that has worked here for many of us or buying the unknown pulley that could need to be shimmed to line up. It might be the wrong diameter? Does it center itself by the center hole or by the bolt holes. No one wants a wobbly HB pulley, that will create other problems.
How new is your HB? How many miles on it? More than likely it is a two piece with rubber bonding in the center that is getting old... It might be time to replace it?

Sometimes it is not about the cost... But about how much extra work is created.

That was just a joke. I'm very glad for the advice I get here.
It's a two piece in good shape.
I also have a couple of like new explorer HBs that I might send to damperdudes. Just thought this would be something others had done.
I'll be glad to blaze the trail and let you know what I find. It's not rocket science...

Damperdudes doesn’t require a core anymore for their Explorer HB’s. You’ll save a bit in shipping.

You can also have a machine shop drill out the Weight in the Explorer HB. I had my guy that rebuilt my 302 do it that way. I think I paid $40. Some of the bolt on pulleys and other balancers don’t line up exactly right and can cause squealing.

The lower crossover pipe works well, it’s exactly like a 2002 7.3L Super Duty lower hose. I used the hose, but I did clamp it to the shroud to make sure it wouldn’t flex into the bottom of the fan. For the upper hose, the GTO hose works as does the upper from a ‘98 Crown Vic.

The reason why I suggest DamperDudes is a good automotive machine shop can be hard to find while DamperDudes is a known good quality shop.

We use 69 GTO upper radiator hose with the explorer setup and 2002 7.3 lower hose for thew lower. Some trimming required but works well and no need for intermediate pipes etc. You will have to restrain the hose in front of the lower serpent idler pulley, we use a 2" padded pipe clamp and screw it onto the fan shroud.

Thanks guys! This is great info!
I have extra 3 hole HBs that are 28 oz.
I'm going to check the fit and may just run the 3 bolt pulley from WH.
