Explorer serpentine power steering problem.

Well I just finished my serpentine swap. Worked great but very little power steering. Very little. It was moving fluid with no air bubbles. Tried a new pump since my donor had 250k on it I figured why not. Same situation. Well problem was in my fitting. I had used the russels fitting from the tech article. It is longer than stock and depresses a valve. I modifeid a stock hose to work and power steering is fixed.

My Bro took the explorer high pressure hose and the EB hose to Napa and they made a new hose. FYI for any one doing this swap

Lee's power steering also sells the correct adapter fitting that won't compress the valve.

I saw that they sell that fitting at lees. I think thats what i will do next. What I have now works but its kinda ugly. As far as explaining the valve issue. Where the pressur line threads into the pump, right below that there is a valve on a spring and when the longer fitting screws into the pump it pushes that valve down.

Thats some good info considering my pump is at Lee's right now getting overhauled. Can't wait to get it back! ;D

Got my EFI project up and running again and noticed the lack of power steering. Felt worse than the stock power steering that was originally on the Bronco. I am pretty sure I used the fitting of the tech guide to make my hose. The fitting on the PS gear is weaping a little fluid too Which fitting do I need to replace? I was looking at upgrading to the Wild Horses upgraded PS pump. The pump works better when the bronco is at speed but idling it is terrible.

Shoot man, where were you 9 months ago. I had such a terrible time bleeding I ended up sending it to Lee's to have it the GPH? bumped up and asked them for their fitting... didn't know it was JUST the russel fitting that was the issue!

I will say, will it bumped up and the right Lee's fitting my explorer PS does pretty damn well with 35's and a locker.

I bought the fitting from Summit and am praying it works fine as I would prefer to not have to order something from Lee's.

I know several of you have had good luck with Lee but I didn't. I placed an order with him and 3 weeks later, lost orders, and many phone calls, I finally cancelled my order and went another direction. I was not pleased with the customer service from Lee's at all. Just food for thought.

They're usually pretty good if you just need the fitting but you sometimes have to keep after them for pump rebuilds, etc.

For me, I have nothing but Positive to say about Lee's! Very nice people and they will talk to you and not make you feel like you are wasting their time.

I will acknowledge that they were very nice. They talked to me and took my order and never made me feel like I was wasting their time or anything. I placed my first order after talking to them for almost an hour. 5 days went by and I hadn't heard anything nor did they charge my account so I called for an update. They barely remembered talking to me and couldn't find my order so we went through the specs again. He said he was sorry and would work on it right away.

Another 4 days went by and I called for an update. He hadn't started on it but said he had all the parts together and the reservoir was sitting on the welding table ready to go, give him a couple of days. Fine. 3 days later I called for an update, same thing. I waited another 3 days and called again for an update, guess what, same excuse. He then got mad at me accusing me of changing the specs each time I called. At that point, I just said I think it's best if I cancel my order. He said that's fine with him.

So I guess if your ordering a small part that they don't have to work on, they are probably very nice and ship it right away. If you need something customized, good luck.
