I swapped in a 5.0 from 2000 Explorer so should be the same engine. I didn't keep the serpentine set up and bought an aftermarket front pulley system instead. I changed the timing cover and water pump, installed a Duraspark II distributor, aluminum intake and FiTech EFI. I used Bronco Hut headers for the GT40P heads.

In hindsight, I think I would have tried to keep the original serpentine set up and used the factory EFI system. You will need the computer and wiring harness. I believe you can get a different radiator with the inlet and outlet correct for the explorer engine and maybe even the hoses. I think Toms has all the information you need for this option. If you do it this way, you will probably still need specific headers that will fit the GT40P heads.

My set up actually works great but I could have kept things simple and had original ford parts available for when something breaks.

Both have positive and negatives, as these donor engines are now 20+ years old and parts will start getting harder to find over time.

I would disagree on parts getting hard to find, in particular when compared to aftermarket EFI. I can't imagine how many used Fords are still around today running the stock EFI, too many to count.

Your in the middle of now where and you need a part? I bet you can find one at a salvage yard or a parts house for the Ford EFI before you get any aftermarkets stuff;D

True, you may need to find that part for the old Ford EFI because you are running a system that came out 20 + years old and some people don't replace all the parts when they do an engine swap, so, my thought process is if you do the swap, replace anything yo can buy new parts for (on the old Ford EFI engine) as you do not have a history on the engine. Whereas, I went Sniper because it was new, Holley has been round a long time, and it will still be around when I'm done with the vehicle. Each has merits. But I don't want to be in the spot where something breaks down because it is old, I'd rather have new. And that means either replacing all the old parts on the old FORD EFI, or going with a new system. Yes, the FORD EFI system is reliable, but I like new. To each his own.;D

Im on the verge of doing the explorer swap with ford factory efi,
13 years ago i spent $1000.00 bucks on holleys pojection 2D, thinking holley will be around for a long time. Now go to holleys website and enter" projection 2D" and you get crickets, they offer no replacement parts

Well. Pros and Cons for both... I stuck with my Ford EFI Stuff , for my recent 347 . It will need a final tune from a turner to get it dialed in. His base tune he wrote for me for break I. is awesome as it is. I just wanted to keep as much as the Ford EFI as possible, thinking if something failed I could get my hands on it no matter where I may be . The aftermarket stuff is cool , self learning. I can’t tell you which one over another. I know a Chevy guy who does LS swaps who has used them all, he said they all run off the same parts.

If your keeping stock 5.0 Explore swap, I would get up with EFI guy or keep an eye on here some times they pop up
