How do F150 coil springs work on an EB? I am looking at a set. the spring is about 1 1/2''s taller and the spring is heavier/ thicker, but the coil dia is the same. Will this spring make the ride real stiff?

Bax,

I have not done it, but I am sure the ride would be a little rough. The F-150 is heavier and has a longer wheel base than an EB. What coils are you running on your current Bronco? I prefer a softer coil, but not so soft that a lot of body roll occurs.

Years ago we did this same swap on a '74 EB that a friend of mine had. The previous owner had welded 3" to 4" tall sections of iron pipe on the bottom of the factory coils,a really half-assed lift. Eventually one side broke. I had a set of springs I had taken out of my '77 F-150,we swapped them in.The Bronco sat as high in the front as it did with the jerryrigged front lift. While there was nothing wrong with the way it handled after the spring swap,it did ride pretty stiff. Hope this helps.

My understanding is that most of the Superstiff and Skystiffer springs are/were F150 springs...heavier than need be for a Bronco, hence the stiff ride.

I know you have a big block with more weight up front...maybe consider a taller spring and/or a "winch-spring" like BCB sells.

Bax, I just took off a set that I installed way back in 75. If memory serves me right, I ordered Ford 1450lb springs for a F100/150. They will raise the front up about 1.5 inches, and they really didn't ride too bad. Do not order aftermarket springs but find a set of stock Ford F100/150, the coils are the same dia. as the bronco just more wraps (11).

The springs would be for dads truck. He wants a winch and wants to be able to put a plow on it. So that big spring may work well for him.

Check my gallery for pics, I ran f150 springs and rear coil-shocks. The only difference between the older pics(with doors) and roadster pics is 2" body lift and 35" M/Ts.

I had F150 Superstiff coils in my 77, rode like a tank.

Unless he has like 500lbs on the front all the time I would not do it, get some winch rate coils from a vendor...

I have 6" coils in my 78 mud bronc, 2" coils a 79 bronc I use for towing and had 4" coils in a 78 beater bronc I recently parted. They are all superlift and ride/flex well. They are not like the super flexy springs that are out today, but they are the softest of the older version springs, much softer than rancho or skyjackers. Not sure I'd use any in an EB though.

apparently my bronco has F150 coil springs int he front of it, so says the hillbillies from Washington we bought it from,, and the ride is stiff, but not unbearable, its hard to compare my dads has wild horses rock crawlers so its soft, anyways my bronco has about 2 inches of lift, from those coils, and they ride well, they flex well and they hold up well.
im liking them, especially for street i dont have alot of body roll

My favorite coils were the old Moog Cargo Coils I got way back when. The set for a '66 to '70 F-100 with 6-cylinder engine gave me about a 1.75" lift and a killer smooth ride on the street. They were variable rates though, so stiffened up just right when needed.

F150 springs were the first lift I put on mine back in 90. They were real stiff even with my winch and giant winch bumper. Don't do it to your Dad.

Most of the old school EB lifts were just F150 coils. Like nearly everyone has written F150 coils will make it ride really stiff. A stock F150 Coil will get you about 2 inches of lift on an EB, and 3 inch F150 will give you about 5 inches of lift and so on...

I have run 3.5 inch EB coils on a F150. It gives you about 2 inches of lift and they ride really smooth.

Roger, I could roll over a quarter and tell you if it was heads or tails by the bumps. For years my DD '69 ran on K-Bar-S springs which were exctly what yr looking at..full-size old-school lifting springs on an EB.
