Sun roof...?

Among other things, this 1970 model has a stock style 76/77' Dana 44 disk brake front end with stock style Y linkage.

Here's another one that looks interesting but pricey. Thoughts? Thx!

http://www.grautogallery.com/vehicles/3050/1970-Ford-Bronco

It looks like a decent rig for $10-$15k. I think you should follow the rigs for sale here and even post a wanted ad in the classifieds here if you haven't already. Provide a price range and any specifics you'd like, understanding that there isn't anything you can't do to these things after the fact with enough time and money.

That said, there are enough experts on this site that there's not much that can get pimped for sale in the classifieds that doesn't get scrutinized with a fine toothed comb within an inch of its life. Knowing how much it costs to repair most of the major and minor things on EB's, you'll get a feel real quick for what a EB will really cost you in the end.

I pretty much assume that most rigs for sale through specialty used car dealers are going to cost double what they should...sometimes more.

Clearly you're very ready to pull the trigger on a high end restored Bronco. Why not buy one from a member here? You are more likely to purchase one that has been done right and get a better deal.

The reoccurring theme with these dealers you are looking at is they are a shiny paint job on a truck that was built using short cuts and poor workmanship. It's just not wise to buy one from these guys without seeing it in person and inspecting it yourself.

Another pretty one. With at least a few more decent, if old, upgrades.
Fairly honest by today's standards for sure. 23 gallon tank is nice (but looks to have been leaking), trailer hitch is a disaster waiting to happen and should either be removed or at the very least a big etched-in-stone sign stating to not to anything over 1000lbs with 100lb tongue weight. Or less...

Older aftermarket springs (probably Duff's?). Older repaint (unless they just missed the lower rocker area?) but still shows halfway decent. Frankly, I would have left it the original Greenish/Aqua color (whatever Ford called it) because that's a real Bronco color, and one of the nicer ones. I know, most people like reds and oranges on EB's, and I do too, so maybe that's what someone was thinking when they sprayed it. But that green/blue you can just see under the peeling black under the hood is mo' bitchin' I think.

Chrome Sport trim, but missing a bezel from the front side-marker light. The somewhat desirable, but not super value-changing lower rocker trim.
But "Sports only came with bench seats"??? Where do all these new and interesting and heretofore unheard of little tidbits of information keep coming from?
A very deep well of knowledge only known to professional re-sellers apparently.
Seems there are as many made up stories as there are Broncos.

Newer-ish tires? Good there, but too small for the wheels unfortunately, making it look like whoever put the newest ones on either cheaped out from previous sizes, or a PO just bought too big a wheel for what they were running.

Not necessarily a bad thing to have the inverted-Y steering on a stock-ish Bronco, and the brakes are a great upgrade. But wheels of that width and offset will likely have their way with the linkage in the flex department. Might be a bit more "wandery" until you either narrow the track or beef up the steering linkage.
I sure hope they at least used the pitman arm from the donor rig. Looks like it.

Back to the wheels... You'd likely want to change the tires and/or wheels at some point soon it looks like. Looking fairly new-ish (and certainly shiny!) but as mentioned, too narrow for the wheels. Pretty sure that 10" wide wheels are not within the recommended width range for 10.50" wide tires.
Or if they are, they shouldn't be!
Could drive a little funky like I said, never get good tire wear, and if off-roading at lower pressures is your thing, they might just exit themselves all on their own at some point.

Overall I think it's much better than the first one but without the nice A/C add-on unfortunately. Lots of things to make it worth working on, but it's probably pretty driveable with just a little TLC. Not a show truck, but a runner with some work.
And we make fun of what dealers like to charge, but it's no different than any other used vehicle.
A dealer is usually going to be more expensive than a private party anyway. Sometimes by a long shot.
Unfortunately, someone will probably walk in and throw down what they are asking and walk away with $10k-15k worth of EB for $22k. Then again, that happens a lot these days. So who am I to say it's not worth it.

I see that Craigslist prices have suddenly doubled around here in the last three months (again) where not long ago we had six or seven runners under 10 grand, and now the only ones in that range are a buddy's projects he's selling. Almost everything else is asking 25 and up!
We'll see how many actually get asking prices, of course. Not long ago most would not have at that level. But now? Maybe we're in for another price spurt.

Sorry to spend most of the time casting aspersions, but you'd think that a dealer with a vehicle that pretty-at-a-glance would at least make a mild effort to clean the mud and caked on crap off the bottom and brakes!
Or not...%) At least the main frame and some areas are what I called "honest". But caked mud on the calipers? Please...
In their defense, results of a recent test drive maybe?

Oh well. Bottom line is, if it feels good, do it.
A new friend paid 30 for his and it showed up needing pretty much everything re-done. Lots of bolt on goodies and the ubiquitous new paint made him pull the trigger remotely without having seen it in person. Huge disappointment when it arrived needing four new tires and had a bunch of poorly done mods. But within a couple of weeks or so he was enjoying the heck out of it with the top off and his kids in the back smiling from ear to ear.
So there's that point of view too.

See who's buying and for how much, and throw your hat in the ring.
Better yet, see if someone here is near any rigs you're looking at and have them go test drive it. So far we've all been honest and nobody that we know of has been taken advantage of by getting a rig snaked out from under them. It could happen, but you've already seen one disappointment, so why not take a chance?

Good luck.

OK, maybe you're right, there does seem to be a theme with the two.! I'm just not seeing the well priced private party vehicles people have indicated I look for that are in good enough condition. Appreciate all the things people have pointed out. I will continue on.

Afraid you're right. I hadn't looked much in the past month or two, and all of a sudden all the Craigslist adds have doubled their average prices or more!

However, it's still good to hold off on something that does not look complete or looks like a bigger project than you want to get yourself into, even if a good price.
Lots of these ads have gone unanswered in the recent past. Don't know if that still continues or not, but only time will tell unfortunately.
And time usually means either missing out, or paying too much.

Sometimes you get lucky and are right in the right place ant eh right time with the right amount of money though, so hang in there.

If I were you I would keep looking. That one isn't bad but it still needs a lot of TLC if you want a solid daily driver. I had that inverted Y on two Broncos. Not a fan.

$22,000 seems like a lot of money for that rig. $12,000 maybe. Even that seems high. The paint doesn't look great.

I was joking earlier but my rig is way more solid than that and I might entertain selling if that one brings $22,000. I might ask $30 for mine. Lol

Greg

P.s. When looking for my second Bronco I drove hundreds of miles looking at junk. Thought I found one that had a frame off done two years earlier. It had but the college kid had beat the crap out of it. Anyway... About the time I was going to give up I found a solid 76 parked behind a house not far from home. No for sale sign. I just knocked on the door and made an offer. The guy declined then called me back in a couple of weeks.

Maybe you can find one close if you have in there.

Skymast, I did a lot of reading here before I bought my EB. A lot before I joined the board here. A year or more. I even had experience with EBs earlier in my life. I had my drivers license when EBs first came on the market. I bought mine over a year ago, drove it and enjoyed it awhile and have done some restoration. It now has Vintage Air and a newly rebuilt front end and a few other minor things. I have bit the bullet and it is now in for a complete repaint and new seals bumper to bumper. When everything is finished I will have spent about what you were going to spend on the one above. Mine has 35k original miles. I know exactly where it came from and who owned it from the beginning of it's life. It was cut, and was used on a hunting ranch in S. Texas. It was never undercoated and not rusted. Ever. No panels had ever been replaced. That is what I liked about it. It was an honest vehicle. It might not have been the prettiest EB when I bought it, but it was certainly not the worst. The guys here are very knowledgeable. I listened to a lot of things they said about buying an EB and some of the dealers.
