Finished my first axle rebuild!

Well I completed the first milestone in the rebuild of my Bronco. Over the last few weeks my husband has been helping me grind, clean, paint and rebuild the 9" rear axle. Ironically enough, the ulitamte goal is to have one ton axles underneith it but we have enough spare parts around to build a 9" and dana 44 to get me on the road while we build the heavy duty axles.

So we sanded, cleaned and painted the housing that Damon (Shamu) helped us source. We installed all new brake hardware, wheel cylinders, brake pads and outer seals. The axle shafts are leftover from my husbands axle upgrade but have brand new bearings.

I learned a lot from this first step (mostly about patience and busted knuckles) but it was a great experience!!!

Pics to follow...

Nice rear end! LOL Ahh man i need to take my lockouts off and repack my wheel bearing so i can check just how good shape that all is. Who knows when the last time its been done. I cant beleive i cant find a 9inch third member loaded with 4.56 gears! I guess im going to have to buy ring/pinion set and build one out of my spares. Kuddos to you for the hard work!! Just reminds me that i got more to do! lol

Congrats! I read about how to do it, but decided to send it out instead because I don't own the proper tools and probably won't ever do another one. Jealous you took it on!

The third member was already together so I can't take credit for that. I just plugged that in.

Two nice rear ends there, to be honest. Leave it to Texas to find a greasy, but smiling, pretty gal working on her own stuff! Lot of Cali girls can't and/or won't even check the oil. Have fun getting it on the road!
