Maybe, but from what I've seen and experienced, probably not. It takes more than that. If it or they've been in one orientation for too long you may as well just replace them, it'll be easier.

I found one in my mother inlaw's house last spring while clearing out her house after she went to old folks home and wife said probably been there sense the 1980's.

Needle showed it was empty...me well I pulled the pin n squeeze the nozzle and that sheet blew all over everything n the ole lady to boot.

the next house clearing ...she left me out of it.

You can argue that they don't need attention and point out instances where they didn't all day long. In the end you're doing the community a disservice. The powder DOES compact and it is the reason that businesses are legally obligated to have an annual service done on their fire extinguishers.

I'm not saying that off-roaders need to do exactly the same thing. Just to be aware that the compaction does happen and it will be accelerated with vehicle vibration. Taking some pro-active measures to insure that the extinguisher(s) will work when needed goes along with having them in the first place. IF the powder does compact and you need it to work you're screwed.

Depending on cylinder they need hydro checked every 5-7 years or throw away if you watch a service tech he checks the gauge and tips it over and hit the bottom with a rubber mallet for your yearly inspection .

Oh I'm not arguing at all because I agree with what your saying and it should be addressed as you said.

In the trucking industry they have to be checked ever few months .

I'm sure that was a freak thang that one worked only because I had aholt of it.

I watched our tech many times. He did hit the bottom with a rubber mallet. Then he discharged the units into a box until empty. He then replaced the powder and re-pressurized it. Assuming that it wasn't past it's hydro date. Then it just got replaced.

IMPORTANT KIDDIE Fire Extinguishers have been recalled!! IMPORTANT

Do some checking as they will look OK, only be a couple years old but won't discharge!!

I have 3 are being replaced for free...

If you have one of the recalled units, you should immediately contact Kidde to request a free replacement. Call Kidde at (855) 271-0773 or visit the company's website for more information. Visit cpsc.gov/recalls or Kidde.com to see if your fire extinguisher is affected.Nov 2, 2017

While I don't remember getting involved in this thread/poll I'm glad it happened. Good to know about the invert and wack extinguisher with a rubber mallet. I'll do that. I carry two extinguishers, one on each side of the bronco attached to the roll bar. Reason being, some years ago another bronco had an electrical fire (alternator) and he ran out of his extinguisher and the fire was still going. As I was just behind him I grabbed mine and finished the job. Now guess what, the rest of the weekend I didn't have one. Reasons, 1st he needed more than one so I might also, 2nd I'll still have one for me just in case something like that happens again, 3rd what happens if bronco is on it's side and the one extinguisher is on the bottom. I carry some spare parts why not a spare extinguisher?

Only thing I asked for when the “what do you want for Christmas” question came up several weeks ago. If Santa doesn’t come thru, I’ll be doing some shopping 12/26.

(Of course if he wants to drop a few Bronco parts off with the extinguishers I’d be good with that too;D)

Timely reminder, half cab - thanks for keeping this front and center.

I didn't read through all the posts, but wanted to be sure and add that while it's important to carry 1 or 2 extinguishers attached to the roll cage, you need to make sure there is at least 1 within reach from the drivers AND passengers seats in case of rollover where it's possible you could become trapped and can't escape.
I have 1 in the cab and 2 accessible from outside.

nvrstuk - thanks for the reminder of the recall. That link doesn't work. Try THIS

Thanks Bukin 67, the link works now... I wonder how many guys will actually check the recall info out... I had to use one last year and I can't imagine the flipping "horror" of pulling the trigger and it doesn't work and it's only a year old!! I carry two in the Bronco, and have 2 in my shop, one of them is the BIG one... they are the price of a 12 pack of that cheeeep diet beer so many guys drink lol ...buy a fire extinguisher!! :)

I carry one, on the roll bar. But I'm going to put another one up front for easy access.

I have 2 halon bottles. 1 is on the tunnel the other larger bottle is plumbed to the fuel tank, near the frame mounted hp fuel pump and engine bay. The cable pull is mounted by the rear view mirror.
