Well, I think I am going to have to call this one a flake.

Once again I took part of the day off from work, expecting the seller to be available after 3:30PM as he had stated before.

Once again my phone call to him at 4PM resulted in being sent to voicemail.

Once again my attempt to call again a few hours later resulted in being sent to voicemail.

His ad is still up, but all attempts to contact him have proved futile.

Another day, another Bronco.

Biggest reason I was so psyched about this particular Bronco is the wife LIKED it. Never in my life have I heard her use the words "cool" and "Bronco" in the same sentence. If I had picked it up, I planned to turn it into a driver for her.

I finally received a response back from the seller. But not in the way you might imagine.
I decided to send him an email tonight from a different email address, not associated with my name. This email was your standard first response to an ad from an interested party. "Like your truck. How much you looking for? When can I see it?"
Interestingly enough, he was quick to respond. It would appear that rather than working late, he has been dealing with quite a few responses on the truck. In fact, he claims to have shown it to about 6 different interested parties over the last two days. His original asking price of 1300.00 to me Monday evening has dropped to an "offer of 1000.00. Beat that and it is yours."

I guess he really didn't want to wait an hour and a half for a guy to drive up who was fully prepared to pay full asking price. Instead he'd rather dicker with people who are closer.

I'm happy to say I am finally done with this asshole. I hope he never sells that truck. Serves him right for not liking Fords in the first place.

Oh, and in case anyone is interested in what he is selling, here's the link to the ad:

that looks too good for $1300. scam would be in the back of my mind

The guy openly admitted to me that he really didn't know anything about Broncos, or Fords for that matter, and didn't care for Fords.

On a side note, I couldn't resist slapping a flake in the face. I sent him an email back, from the "alternate email address" with some quotes from the emails he sent me the other night. I finished the email off by letting him know the truth...I was ready to pay every penny he was asking for the truck. All he had to do was return one of my phone calls.

Too good of a deal for 1300.00 it might not have been. I figure the shorty headers, wheels, tires, and bumpers would have been worth the 1300 if parted. Throw the 302 with accessories in and 1300 is an easy number.

I wouldn't have parted it though. I can't bear the thought of parting out a Bronco.

I hate dealing with flaky sellers. I found a 97 explorer on craigslist and jumped through hoops for 2 days to finally get it, it was an absolute mess of a transaction. I just held my tongue till the deal was done, nothing I said or did was going to change him from being an asshat but I ended up with a smokin deal and future drivetrain for my Bronco.
Sorry you are dealing with the same crap, I dont get people sometimes.

I suspect that his idea of "needs body work" (read: rear quarters have some rust, windshield frame and windshield need replaced) led him to try and dump the truck as fast as possible and with little to no questions.

During my initial conversations with the guy, I was inquisitive. I asked quite a few questions, and likely came off as a guy who knew what he was talking about/looking for. In a way, I think this worked against me. It is possible he saw my percieved knowledge about Broncos as a possible stopping point in the sale, or a possible low ball offer for the truck.

In reality, I think he was simply out of his element. Not being familiar with Broncos, I think he fails to realize exactly how much they are worth. If he did just 30 minutes of internet research, I think his price would go up drastically. I know when I pitched him the idea of trading my 77 F250 4x4 project, I was anticipating it being accepted as only a partial trade.

My hat is off to the guy that offered him 1000.00 for it. That tells me that a) one of US had a look at it, realized exactly what kind of a deal it was, and rolled the dice to lower the price even further; b) someone out there looking for a Bronco project just scored themselves a great starting point for that project; and/or c) this jackass just lost himself a good chunk of money, as well he deserves to.
