"Flying Tiger" Build - New Pics 1/15

Got a few things done today. Dash is now out. Realized I had a throttle leaver that is directly connected to the accelerator. Was told this was a factory option. Kinda like it. I also inventoried some of the parts I will not need and listed them for sale. Amazingly I have already sold half of them in 4hrs. I am working to modify the building where I am doing my build, it will more than triple the space I have now. I did pic up all the parts this weekend at a Pull a Part for serp conversion on my 302. Got all the brackets off of a 97 Explorer, and got the water pump pulley off of a 1990 Lincoln Towncar. I am using that pulley because I will not be using the Explorer clutch fan, but instead using the Taurus 2 speed electric fan that I got off of a 95 Taurus.

Ok, more pics of my build. I pretty much have the body stripped down. Engine, trans, tanks, wiring, dash, etc are all out. I will replace some sheet metal ( very little needed, this 66 had virtually no rust ) , before I take the body off the frame. I have bought two used engine stands to make my rotisseri out of . I will be using cast iron IV Pole bases with 6 roller blade type wheels as the wider base wheels for the engine stands. The buiding I am doing my rebuild in is an old abandoned building with no power or water. I got permission from the owner to use the building as I please. In return, I cut the grass around the building. I have gutted the building of most interior walls making one large open shop, and one smaller parts area. I also picked up a nice blasting booth off of craigs list to blast most of my parts. I also picked up a really nice gas air compressor off craigs list for $40. It just need valve adjustments, runs perfect. Will post as I get more done.

LOL knifemaker. You are one of the very few who have seen where I am working on this. Yea since tearing down all those walls I have tripled my work area. With all the room it makes me want to get over there more. Dont know if you saw my post on that company that sells steel body parts on Ebay. Prices are really good and a couple of guys have said they have bought multiple times from this company and the parts are solid. Will be ordering some floor pans. Hope you are doing well.

Got my first floor pan replaced. Not bad for my first go round. Wow, getting the floor off those support channels. My two new best friends, my air chisel and my angle grinder.

Ok, have gotten a few new things done in the last couple of months. I have removed both of my rear quarter panels that will be replaced with uncut fenders. I have started building the end pieces for the rotiserie I am building. The new wider bases for my engine stands that will be used for the rotisserie are from cast iron IV Poles used in hospitals. They have 6 large roller blade type wheels and will give a good solid and manueverable foundation. I have picked up my front seats out of a 90's Explorer, they are electric, have electric lumbar and bolsters, and they tilt forward, these will get recovered. I have picked up 5 of the stock 15x6 metal rims from the pull a part. I have also started the cancer repair to the Eye Brow Grill that I picked up.

Ok, a couple of new projects and ideas for the build. I got my aluminum front bumper. It will not stay a winch bumper, I have no need for a winch. I will make some mods. Also, I have decided that I am going to use gauges out of a 1948 Lincoln Continental. Saw these and just fell in love with them. Since my colors are going to include Gold and Black and Chrome, these just will fit so well. I also was able to get my hands on an actual dash out of a 1948 Lincoln Continental that I will integrate into my dash. It even includes the glove box door. I was also able to pick up an extra clock because I found a company that will convert the clock into a tach. Last new project is that I started my mods on the eyebrow grill that I saved from the rust pile. I cut out the grill portion of the grill. I will have a grill custom cut out of stainless that will have a Fleur de lis in the center.

If you go look up 1948 Lincoln Continental Dash on Google Images, you can see what it looked like. The center was a huge radio/speaker. I will cut the center section out where the speaker and radio were. I will try to figure out what would look and work best for melding the two dashes together.

Got started on the dash mods to merge the 1948 Lincoln Continental Dash with my orig dash. I started by cutting out the center section of the Lincoln Dash that had the radio and the speaker. I then welded the two outer pieces together. I have found a company that will take the extra clock that I bought and turn it into a tach. The tach will probably get mounted where the original speedo cluster was. Will have to make some filler pieces, but so far not to bad. Will actually give me a little more room behind dash since the new section sits out a little. Things I had to consider. Wanted to make sure I did not obstruct the defrost ducts. I will also have to work out where the A/C vents will go. Anyone mount them at the bottom of the dash?

That 66 camper top special roadster was loaded up and sent to Chris ( BajaFresh ) up in Nashville. I will post up my latest mod I have started on. I found some vent window mechanisms out of a 1971 Mercedes that I am going to mod and put in my doors.

I also just ordered my suspension and body lift, front disc kit, bushings, trac bar, tie rod, and a few other things. Just finished up my floor boards. Working on mounting my explorer seats. They sat up to high, cutting into floor to lower them about 3 inches. Then might be ready to pull body off.
