I'm Making efforts to get out of my sandraill and get into a bronco. (I need more seatbelts for my kidos) I know I will be the 83,431 person to ask the same question but What are some of the thinks to look out for?

I get the rust issues and an engine is an engine. I am looking hard at a 1970 uncut with an OG 289. Paint is a year old so thats one of my biggest concerns not old enough to bubble and show what they are hiding, HA. Minus bumpers and passenger and bk seat its pretty much there just "needs a tuneup...". It was a work in progress for the guy and its run its course. Biggest problem is its 6 hours away and he wants a non refundable deposit to bring it up here. Ill try and post some pics for a visual.

Thanks in advance

First thing would be to decide what "type" of Bronco you want - trail rig , combo 50/50 , 10% trail 90% highway , trailer queen --- etc.
That can/will determine - engine , paint quality , body condition , cut or uncut , tire size , suspension lift - etc

Photos are critical to this crowd Bud.

Good photos are even better. These fellas can tell a lot from some well shot photos.

Of course it also depends on price. Every damn piece of sheet metal on these things is available from one of the vendors you see on this screen, so if the price is right don't be afraid of a little rust, but some rust repair is pretty tough and these fellas can help you determine what is or isn't too much rust once they can view those photos.

Oh,...and WELCOME to the best damn site on the net Bronco Brother.

Welcome! 70 should be a 302. Uncut is good but as already mentioned, what kind of build are you looking to do? If you're into sand rails I suspect you're going to want to take it wheeling. If so, I'd look for one already cut. Frame rust is an issue especially around/behind the rear spring mounts and near the gas tank strap locations. Check for a cracked frame near the steering box. All 70's came with manual drum brakes, manual steering, Dana 30's, and 3-on-the-tree. If you want factory upgrades for these items you need to look at 73's and later (except that Ford upgraded to the D44 in 1971).

Good luck. BTW, check out Lonestar Early Bronco Club! We have a number of members in the Houston area.

Well guess the guy was wrong on the Eng. I want something that I can take to the deer lease not wording if I get a scratch or 10 but 80% of the time on roads cruising with the fam. Right now it sux taking 2 cars with my rail and I mainly used it for cutting donuts with the kids. I'm learning this forum, trying to post pics.

My opinion uncut is only a street/show Bronco.

I would leave uncut Broncos for the collectors, find a cut Bronco for wheeling and smile since they currently cost less.

To get bigger tires you need to lift an already high center of gravity vehicle to even greater heights.
Most modern wheelers have gone away from the ultra high lifts and now it's 'get out the sawzall.'

Which makes the people that were cutting their Broncos back in the day far ahead of the crowd.

Easy way to do that?

looks like they sprayed a beat up bronco without doing much body/prep work to me.

something is definitely up with the rockers and lower fender areas. i know i saw several small dents here and there and they painted the windshield rubber/molding. however that may be just right for you LoL!!!!!!! i wouldn't feel bad scratching that up!

i would assume that the "tune up" means the engine is so busted it cant even be rebuilt, but that's generally how i look at old cars. assume the worst then come out ahead or sometimes even......

welcome to the club! these days any running driving bronco under $10k is a deal...

yep thats the one he's got it in several location. He said it was a simple single stage looks like a maaco special. Yea, like I said thats what I'm afraid of, what lurks beneath. At least with a 5+ year paint job the cancer will start showing. He said he replaced 1 rocker and patched the other... He sent me a video of it running...it runs. His words were it needs a carb rebuild. That all said I'm new to the bronco market so not real sure whats a fair price. I like the uncut in the houston area I won't be getting to crazy so a 1-3" body lift and slightly bigger tires would be nice; I don't need ones that require a ladder to get in.
I've had enough projects that took for ever to build and one is still in parts so I want to find a runner that I can have fun with and add too.

Maybe someone in that area could put some eyes on it for you, instead of the deposit?

You can contact Jason at B.C. Broncos in the great state of Texas. They know a lot about the EB (early Bronco) and sell most parts for them. There's a link at the top of this forum. Welcome to the Bronco world. I must warn you though that it's a illness for which there is only one known cure. I have three of them. Two EBs (66 & 75) and one FSB (full size Bronco) ('81 with a complete 90 FSB) power train. Yes, I have it bad!!!!!!
