Ford 170 throttle return spring placement

Any pics or descriptions of how to orient the throttle return spring on a 170 with stock carb?

Am I missing a bracket? The lower knob hits the spring no matter where I put it (see pic below).

On that same note, should there be something attached to the lower knob?

Thanks for the help!

Your bracket needs to be bent down towards the manifold, but besides that yours looks just like the one that is on my 70. I will try to post some pic up tonight so you can compare.

Looks like yours is bent upward.

Here a pic of mine. Sounds like yours is correct and mine is wrong. But mine works.

Thanks for the pics. My bracket is already sloping at what looks to be the correct angle (see new pic). The spring fits nice and straight with good tension, but then bows out and hits the knob when stretched. Could this be due to a worn spring?

Mill Knob: I'm located in Rock Hill as well. My buddy saw you cruising down Dave Lyle and sent me a pic a few weeks ago. My 1970 was originally Norway Green too. Small world.

Maybe you have the wrong spring? Here's the setup on my 66, it's original to the engine.

Upside down but you get the idea.

My spring is like yours, my plate is basically flat, I don't have that second knob that you have. I have a manual choke, it connects on the other side of the carb from the second knob. I don't know what that second knob does.
