working on my 73. Was in storage for years when I bought it. rear springs were add a leafs and according to the sales paperwork from the owner it has 3.5 front coils. So I changed out the rears to wild horses 3.5 leaf set. Now the rake is crazy so I am going to go ahead and change the front coils since they are decades old. Question: Have any of ya'll put 4.5 coils on the front with 3.5 leafs on the rear. I am going to mount a winch and make my own custom bumpers so there will be added weight. Don"t want to do something stupid here.

I haven't personally, but I've seen numerous rigs on here with that exact setup and for the same reasons...heavy winch bumpers, winches, etc. It's pretty common for the leaf springs to run a little over advertised lift in my experience, presumably to account for future sag once fully broken in, but as they say, your mileage may vary.

I remember venders selling springs for without winch and with winch.
The hard part is the better riding springs are the lower spring rates, which are also the same springs that small changes in weight make the biggest change in height.

Decades old coil springs don't mean they are bad. Have you measured the axle to frame heights? You might be replacing the front coils with the exact same spring and the rake is from the rear springs.

I’m pretty sure I’m running BCB 41/2 and also running a steel bumper and winch
If it would help I could give you my axel to frame measurement. Let me know

Once you move to a 4.5-inch lift, caster alignment becomes critical. Standard 7-degree C-bushings may not be enough to prevent "wandering" on the highway. You may need to consider radius arm drop brackets or long radius arms to maintain proper handling and stability.
