Front Disk Conversion, Brakes Hanging Up

I’ve recently installed a front disc conversion kit from Toms Bronco. Everything part of the manual braking system is brand new. I just took the truck on its maiden voyage after a three year restoration. After several minutes the front disc start to hang up.

I opened one bleeder and released the built up pressure on both front calipers. Several minutes of driving and the issue happened again.

There is a brass proportioning valve.. could this be the issue? Is there an adjustment? Anyone have experience with these front disk swaps?

Could be the proportioning valve, especially if you did not replace it with a new one for disc brakes, but have seen brand new ones not work properly. Also verify that you have the front brakes connected to the front (furthest from the brake pedal) connection on the master cylinder, I've run across this causing the same problem.

If you had a front hose go bad, that is a symptom - opening the bleeder releases pressure - if it was a bad caliper, it wouldn't release.

Is only one side doing it or both?

I guess being all new, you wouldn't suspect a bad hose (they can collapse internally and not show it externally).

Overall, sounds like the calipers are good, do you have the bleeders pointed up?

Fluid level do you have it below the top edge of master cylinder 1/4 to 3/8 inch ,,need a little expansion room..

are you running manual or power assisted ,,if booster,, booster possible push rod issue''

Did you replace the front brake hose [frame to diff] possible restriction there,,

one thing I forgot to mention is if the push rod from the booster is too long slightly depressing the master cylinder it won't allow the brakes to retract.

The above is a very definite possibility!
