Fuel Door and Bucket Installation

Hello,
I have a 1977 bronco but the fuel neck installed by the previous is from a 1976, so yes it sticks out. I want to install the correct fuel neck bucket, door, and other parts but was not able to find much on the topic. The aux tank has not been installed so I plan to do the same, install the fuel neck bucket and door.

The other option for this would be to install a Billet Aluminum Fuel Door for the main and aux.

I am hoping to avoid major sheet metal work.

Any input on this would be very helpful.

Do you still have the poly tank? Wouldn’t think the fill neck would be different from 76 to 77 but I have been wrong before. Were the tanks swapped? Seems to me that you could cut the rubber hose to fit.

Yes, still have the poly tank. The neck length is different from the 76, since the 77 has gas doors, it is shorter…I think.

Can any 1977 owners send me a few photos of the gas door, open, closed, close up? I am looking for how it looks at the point the bucket meets the fender.

Thanks

I can hook you up in the morning with some pics. Retirement project is in the shop and it’s cold outside. Lol.

Here’s some pics of my 77 main tank. if there’s another angle or another picture, you need to see just let me know what you want. I got the fuel neck assembly from Tom’s and I got the little bumpers from Dennis Carpenter. IMG_2269.jpeg IMG_2272.jpeg

Thanks, these are what I needed.

I am having a hard time locating the rear fender that has the opening for the gas door.

When I was considering a Dennis Carpenter body I asked my body guy if he could put a fuel door into one of those bodies and he said it seems pretty easy.

I believe no one makes a 77 quarter panel with this feature. And the fuel door and bucket is not available either. You will have to source an original 77 quarter for the parts. Or as SeaVee stated. you will have to graft in a donor, fuel fill from another vehicle. Something else to note. If you truly do have a 77. The 77's have additional bump outs in front and in back of the wheel well hump, inside the box. To allow addition clearance for the fuel filler tubes.

Here is what I did for a filler cap replacement on my 76. See post 321.

The cap is a pop out / threaded in cap that mounts flush with the fender. The cap is a Biker Choice, Fuel filler cap used on motorcycle tanks.

Understood. Maybe the best bet would be to just go to the 23 gallon tank.

I am not 100% sure but you probably could source the fuel doors from a 77 and newer ford truck they all had them .Then you would have to graft them in yes major body work.

This is what I did. I bought a pop open fuel door from Hagan auto, and welded it in. then I had my local welding shop attach the stock fuel neck to the new fill through the cap fuel neck so I would have a properly vented fuel filler neck. and tanks inc provided the rubber fill tube. I didn't have to modify the interior at all, and I think it looks good. I got the idea from a guy on this forum, but I don't remember his name to give him proper credit. and I used toms 23 gallon efi ready fuel tank. fyi
